Hey all,

Ok, here's the deal. I'm an older student. I went to UCLA in 1991 and totally screwed the pooch. I had a GPA under 2.0 and was kicked out after a year and a half. A year ago I decided the time was right to give it a another shot. I live in NYC now and applied to a couple of CUNY community colleges and a couple of CUNY senior colleges. I have a really good HS GPA and really good SAT scores but I got rejected from all of them. I was able to get into a different CUNY, Kingsborough Community College (I think all you need is a HS diploma and a face and they let you in). The problem for me with Kingsborough is it's a 2.5 hour subway trip just to get there. My work schedule makes it almost impossible for me to attend classes. I took two online classes this past semester. They were ok but not ideal. I did get As in both though.

I applied again to CUNY for the Spring (I was really hoping to get into Laguardia CC as it's only 20 minutes from my apartment) but I got rejected again so I'll be taking 4 more online classes at Kingsborough in the coming semester.

So, my question is, does anybody have any tips for transferring into Laguardia for Fall 2011? There are only so many online classes to take at Kingsborough. I feel I'm going to run out of them pretty soon.

The other issue is I'm not allowed to e-Permit. I was not well informed about the CUNY Math Placement test. I didn't realize there was a pass/fail component so I took it with no preparation. I got a 91 on the first part and a 26 on the second part (30 is passing). Kingsborough has a policy that you have to pass the test in order to e-Permit and take classes at other CUNY colleges. I'm not allowed to retake the test. I have to take a remedial math class but, again, with my schedule it's impossible for me to actually attend that class.

This is pretty frustrating for me. Kingsborough has a short winter session but there are no online classes and I can't e-Permit and I can't make it down to the campus. I kind of feel like I'm being prevented from taking classes. This same issue is going to come up during the short summer session. My other question is, does anybody know if I can take classes at a CUNY as a non-matriculating student even if I'm already in the CUNY system?

Thanks in advance,
ryan
