TSA pre check etiquette question

Boyfriend and girlfriend travel together. Boyfriend has TSA pre check and just zoomed through security. Girlfriend doesn’t have TSA pre check and is waiting in a long line. What are your thoughts? Should have boyfriend go through the regular line with his girlfriend?

Nope, he can wait for her on the other side. Another person taking off shoes and belt slows it for everyone.

Depends on whether you’re going to make the plane. One less person in an already long line is a plus.

They arrived early. So time is not the issue. It’s not like he is getting ahead. He still needs to wait at the gate

Should have waited. She should dump him.

Hoping this is a tongue in cheek response.

That has happened to us several times. The other person just waits on the other side of TSA. No big deal.

I just asked my son what would he do. He said he would not use his TSA pre check

Wait on the other side. While TSA pre is a boon to the passenger, it’s also used by TSA to manage their lines, so you’re doing nobody any favors by getting in the slow line… Often, when I have bought the tickets, my non-TSA companions have gotten TSA pre. So it’s not a forgone conclusion that she won’t have it.

If he made both reservations together, she probably would have been given pre-check status also.
They could have gone through long line together, or he waits for her. Either a fine choice.

Wait on the other side. Better crowd control and spacing results.

Curious, for the people who go to the slow lane, does gender play a role?

IMO, they should stay together. Strength in numbers. They can help each other through the line, and if one gets flagged for further screening, the other can keep an eye on their stuff. And in extreme cases where there is disrespect shown to a person, it always helps to have a wingman.

Should have asked a question : “I can stay here with you or zip through and have a Starbucks waiting for you when you get through. What would you like?”

Then act accordingly :grinning:

This, or wait with her. And I’d say this no matter what the genders are. Waiting in the long line is tedious. having company, and someone to spell you to pee, is what a relationship is all about. Rather than letting someone schlep by themself while you wait in comfort at the other side.

She’ll never learn if he waits for her. He should go straight to the lounge and send pics.

That sure will teach her something–drop this guy.

She’s a time thief, he’ll be ok.

Yes this!! My daughter has global entry - she gets to take all the extra junk so we don’t have to deal with it in regular security

In my opinion, he gets the Starbucks this time and then girlfriend gets TSA pre check for next time so they can go through pre check together in the future. It isn’t very courteous of her to slow them down like that.

Slow them down? It is not like he gets ahead. He still sits at the gate. Not everyone travel often to have use of TSA pre check or mean to pay for it.

It lasts for 5+ years so allocating over a few trips would likely be cheaper than the Starbucks.

Yes, slow them down - many airports are have very long lines and many people find TSA pre-check a less stressful way to travel.

You asked for thoughts but it sounds like you really just want us to confirm your point of view. :joy:
