TSU family

My S is going to TSU as an MT with the class of 2017 next fall. He is sooo excited! Thought I’d share our journey of how he got there. My son went to MPulse summer MT workshop his Junior year and experienced a very professionally run camp. The level of intensity was way high but he came back so ready to use the skills and information he gained there. My son started on prescreen auditions and applications immediately and sent them to his top 6 MT schools plus a backup. We let him choose one on campus audition and the rest he did at Unifieds in Chicago. He heard about what a wonderful program Kaitlyn Hopkins was building at TSU right after MPulse and inquired on email about TSU’s possibilities for some of his particular interests (composing, piano, directing, conducting, plus a major program for equal singing, acting, dancing). He got a wonderful personal email back from Kaitlyn telling of all the opportunities available to TSU students and how she was excited to see him audition! We started to look more into the school and researched about Kaitlyn and found that this school and situation was going to fit him so well. Then when my S went to the dance call for TSU at Chicago, the talk that Kaitlyn and her amazing, fresh, motivated staff gave was the best I’d heard. They talked about how they look for students that work hard and support others. Any questions that were asked about… directing or writing…musicals plus plays…dancing to singing… the support of TSU facilities by building a new $60 million performing arts center… were all answered with; if you want an opportunity all you have to do is ask. When my son walked in for his singing/acting audition he was greeted with warmth and humor and he knew then that TSU was #1 for him. After an anxious waiting period he got a call offering him a position in the MT class…he was sooo excited, said yes on the spot, and was very grateful and emotional about it. After all the acceptances…Kaitlyn had other current MTers and their parent’s welcome the class over fb and email newsletters and videos from productions. My S feels close to his classmates already and has not even met the class of 2017 yet. I also have had all my questions answered and feel support from the other MT parents I have communicated with. We are so happy with TSU and excited to start on this adventure! Starting a new MT program from the ground up is rare but Kaitlyn has built not only an up and coming program but a family that will educate students as a whole artist and inspire them to go out and create a world of artists that make a positive difference in this world. If you are considering a school for your student, TSU is the best program we’ve experienced. More to come next Fall!

Correction… TSU has had a great mt department for a while! Glad to hear there are so many students who have had great experiences at TSU even before kaitlyn and her great staff started there.
