Hello! :) I was looking for a thread for this year's Clark Scholars Program, but couldn't find any. I just made this one where this year's applicants can post questions, concerns and discussions. It would be great if some alumnus could provide some insight on what it is like. Thanks!

Another applicant here! From reading past threads, this program seems like an amazing experience, but so hard to get into…

@ecphrasis: Yes, this program is really hard to get into! They take only about 12 applicants each year. Plus, I’m an international applicant which lowers my chances even more.
I wish you all the best on your application!

Any alumni out there?

This program seems extremely difficult to get into

@Kanyeezy I thought that we were supposed to have 3 math or science teachers.

@Kanyeezy and @Starchow, Wouldn’t you need a math and science teacher recommendation only if the research field you selected is related to STEM? I am putting Computer Science as one of my research fields and I believe it would be all right if I ask my computer science teacher for one of the recommendations.

Yeah I’m goin… Does PSAT 221 look good cuz when I looked at their website, they said their avg score in 2011 was 223… Nervous :(

@starchow From looking at previous years’ threads, it doesn’t even seem like teachers necessarily have to be the ones writing recommendations. Just the people (counselors, coaches, teachers, research mentors, etc) who you think would showcase your skills the best.

Okay. I’m really confused… Do they want us to actually send them an official SAT score report? because it won’t let me send it to a specific program on collegeboard. or can we just screenshot our scores?

Do we have to send our PSAT scores??? or can we just send in our ACT score???

How do you get an ‘official’ sat report from online?

I have no clue… I don’t know if they want us to pay $11 to send them a score report by mail? or can we just screenshot the screen? And I think I’m just sending in my SAT scores and not my PSAT scores, because I bombed the PSAT…

I just printed out “my scores” section on SATand photocopied the PSAT score report, is that alright? Not really sure what else you can do…

I emailed the director, and he said that online print outs are “okay but should be verified by someone.” For verification, I just attached a short note from my counselor but idrk

Another question. When I copied and pasted my essay from my word document to the application form in Safari, I met my limit of one page… but I just saw that whole thing about printing in firefox…and…um… I think I have to delete like a whole paragraph or something because the font size is so different. So do you think we actually do have to print it on firefox?

Okay. Do we need to indent our paragraphs for the narrative? Like can I get rid of the paragraphs in general because I really need to save room…

I ran into that problem as well - Firefox and Chrome have the same or at least similar sized boxes but Internet Explorer makes them much smaller. I indented and had paragraphs but I don’t think it’s a necessity

About the SAT scores, don’t your high school transcripts include all that?

And how many words can go into the narrative box/ research box, approximately? Say I wanted to do the draft in MS Word. What’s my approximate word limit?

Could someone give me some helpful hints on how to write the first essay? How “specific” do we have to write? Do we need to know in-depth the topic we are interested in?
