TTU Clark Scholars Program (2014)

@holocaust I chose Chem Engineering and Electrical Engineering.
@fairyfantasy I emailed him about that because I also took the SAT January (well, subject tests), and he said to send the updated information ASAP to him after the scores come out.

Okay, thanks everyone!

@indianboy2400, good to see you again as well! :D

I chose chemical engineering and alternative energy.

@fairyfantasy I barely got >223 (224 PSAT), but I think that I did really well on the January 2014 SAT (2320+), so I would be interested to find out what you find out from Dr. San Francisco regarding that.

Guys, I don’t know whether I have much of a chance or not.

@fairyfantasy, why do you think you don’t have much of a chance? Is it your stats or something?

What are your guys’ stats in general? And what were your most notable activities?

226 PSAT
2320 SAT
35 ACT
3/432 Class rank
4.67 GPA

^ Those scores are amazing :o

I just spend $20 sending 2 of my teacher recommendations in overnight. Q.Q My teachers didn’t realize is due tomorrow by mail… I suppose if I don’t get accepted and wasted my $20, I at least learned my lesson: ask for recommendations early and remind teachers every few weeks and at least one week before the due date.

@Holocaust My past PSAT and SAT score is not high enough to reach or pass the previous scholars’ average scores. :frowning: I took the SAT again in January and I am hoping that I scored 2300, but even if I did I might not be able to use it for this program.

My Stats:
218 PSAT (totally bombed the Writing section, which has the harshest curve)
800 Math II SAT Subject
Past SAT score from sophomore year is too embarrassing to put up here. -.-
6/681 Rank
4.67 GPA

Classes Currently taking: ( I am a Junior, btw)
AP Calculus BC
AP Chemistry
AP Physics C: Mechanics
AP English
AP US History
AP European History
PreAP Computer Science
Orch

Research Experiences:

  • I did a summer of “research” before but it was mostly observations and I didn’t write any details of that in my application.
    Work/Volunteer Experiences:
  • Teacher Assistant at Dallas Chinese School for Math tutoring(except I just realized I didn’t specify is for math on the applicaiton :o)
  • Mission Arlington - Public Library
  • ECs:
Engineering Club Treasury, HOSA 1st place district Dental Science, 2nd Place Cardboard Boat Regatta, Robotics, UIL math(so far didn’t win anything but 3rd place Team last semester for regional invitation even),
UIL Number Sense, UIL Literature Crit (1st Place Team), NHS, Symphony Orchestra, All-Region Orchestra, Key Club, NYTHS, NSHSS

Sorry for the extraordinarily long post. O.O

^ Anyway, My ECs are pretty sad… which is another reason I REALLY need to get into a summer internship.
@indianboy2400 At least you got over the PSAT avg score. I didn’t even get past that :frowning: I emailed him yesterday and he still haven’t emailed me back, yet. When I get a response I’ll post it here.
@0716012 Yay! I hope that condition applies to SAT scores, too.

I emailed him and he didn’t respond either. I don’t know if its because I didn’t put the subject he wanted me to put or for other reasons.

Okay so I emailed him and he said they will get back to us once all apps are assembled which means we are not going to get our confirmation emails until few days after the deadline (which is tomorrow…wow)

@fairyfantasy I’m pretty sure the same condition applies to all scores!

I didn’t see any place on the application to put your current courses. Or any awards you’ve won.

Me:
226 PSAT, 2310 SAT superscore
GPA 100.57
1 of 179

I believe the written portions of the apps are given the most weight. I don’t think stats are anything to worry about. The written portion levels the playing field.

@Holocaust Wow, what scale is your GPA on? That’s kind of crazy cool.

@Holocaust The school transcript will show current and past courses. On the activities page I mentioned the UIL Teams and other organizations I was on and the the awards I gained through these organizations. o.o

@07160123 Did he reply to your email today? I didn’t get a reply from him. :frowning:

@fairyfantasy he replied to me like an hour after I emailed him today :frowning: Maybe you didn’t put the correct subject for the email?

@07160123 I titled it: Clark Scholars and sent it to MICHAEL.SANFRANCISCO@ttu.edu That’s the right subject and email address, right? I emailed him last night.

I believe that my stats are pretty comparable to those posted. I come from a very underrepresented state (not sure if that matters though).

My Stats:
224 PSAT
35 ACT (36 E, 34 M, 34 R, 36 S)
800 US History SAT II
750 Chem SAT II
AP Chem Exam - 5
AP US History Exam - 5
2/388 Rank
4.90 GPA UW/4.00 W

Classes Currently taking: (Junior)
AP Calculus BC
AP Biology
AP Physics C: Mechanics
AP English Language and Composition
AP Macroeconomics
AP Computer Science (self-study)

I self studied AP Calc BC and AP Physics last year. Would my scores be on my transcript?

My teachers mentioned it, but I had no proof.

Also, my apps delivered according to USPS. Are we all expecting confirmation emails today?

@fairyfantasy yeah I think that’s the right thing…hmm i’m not sure why he didnt email you back.

Did everyone besides me receive confirmation emails?

Slightly nervous.
