Tufts Admission

Tufts is my target/safety school. I have a 97 weighted (95 unweighted) average. My junior year courses include AP Biology, AP Language and Composition, AP US, Spanish 4, and Pre-Calculus. These are the most advanced classes that I can take as a junior at my school. Last year, I took AP Euro and got a 5 on the exam. I was in the 98th percentile on the PSAT. My ECs include Speech and Debate, Drama Club (Vice President), National Honor Society, and I am the president of the Catholic Youth Organization at my church. I also volunteered 49 hours this summer at a hospital and I volunteer once a week to help teach second grade religion. I have won some academic awards and I was selected to go on my school's prestigious Leadership Weekend. I also am going on the National Youth Leadership Forum for Medicine this summer. (I want to do Pre-Med.) So...what are my chances?

i applied to Tufts too it is one of my top choices

Tufts is not a good school to have as a safety. They reject a lot of top applicants because they think the applicants won't matriculate- i.e. that Tufts is a safety for them. It's called the "Tufts Syndrome".

Thank you for that information!

I agree, Tufts is not a suitable safety school, it looks to be a pretty good match however. If you are serious about going there, definitely do ED 1 then I say you have a very good chance. It's a wonderful school, great location, campus and academics.

Thank you. Does Tufts have EA?

No, it has ED 1 and 2.

Which one are you going to? I went to the one in Philadelphia a couple years ago and it was pretty interesting.
Your chances for Tufts are pretty good. I think it will depend also on where you're from. Tufts is a popular match school for high achievers in the Northeast, while if you're from out west you won't face as much competition. Tufts is at that level at which admission is too unpredictable to be a safety, as noted by others above. I've seen mediocre applicants get accepted (usu. because of sports) and very-well qualified applicants get denied or waitlisted.
good luck

Thank you. I applied for the forum in Philadelphia.

If you are seriously considering in going, I would send them a letter. They really don't like it when applicants show 0 interest since it will probably work against you if you maintain silence. So think about how much you want to go. Don't take the spot from someone else who would really want that seat as well.

What other schools have any of you looked at other than Tufts?

Tufts would be a GREAT match for you. You would do very well there.

Does Tufts give scholarships?

No. Only need based money.

Thank you.

Can anyone tell me if it is easier to get into Tufts Medical School after going to Tufts for college?

According to their Info Session, if you are a Tufts undergrad you can apply during your sophomore year to be admitted to a combined BS/MD program. You have to have at least a 3.5 while at Tufts to even apply, and I'm not sure if there are a specific number of openings. I have no info about regular Med School Admissions.

That is awesome news. Thank you so much!!

You're welcome. Good luck.

No, going to tufts undergrad does not improve your chances at Tufts med.

If you're applying to top schools mainly out of hopes for getting into top tier med schools think again. For one, the competition is dead fierce, killer cuthroat competition at the top tier undergrad schools. If you can survive the brutal beatings at these schools, however, you acn get into great med schools.

However, if you're going for primary care medicine it doesn't really matter what med school you go to, its your own workand intelligence in medicine that people will look at. Not your med. school diploma.

However, if you're going into research medicine, a top school like Johns Hopkins Medicine would be very good.
