tufts admissions questions

does Tufts ever post early decisions (I) before the 15th of December?

Good question. Maybe Dan from Admissions will enlighten us?

I applied ED1 in 2006 and I recall that I heard my decision on the 13th.

I think every year is different, both because of the calendar - in '06 the 15th fell on Friday and this year on Monday - and because the volume of applications and pace of the decision-making process varies.
So Dan, we're waiting for you to weigh in - will decisions be on-line before 12/15, and if so, when?

Every past year I've been a part of the process, we've released ED1 decisions before 12/15. That's the goal for this year, and we're on track to meet that goal, but, as they do in the senate, we reserve the balance of our time for unexpected occurrences.

For instance, if I have infected all of my co-workers with the pernicious and devious virus that kept me off the radar last week and they all miss work (leaving me in charge), we might need to wait until the 15th. Now, I'm not saying its my goal to incapacitate my peers with disease, but I won't deny it either.

So in summary: probably, but no guarantees.

Dan,

I am a prospective ED I candidate, and so I will be hearing from you guys soon. If I am not offered admission this time around, and I am 'denied,' is there no possible way that I can be reconsidered a part of the regular decision pool? I am re-taking the SATs this Saturday, and I have a gut feeling that I will be going up because I have prepared differently and more efficiently. And so if I have better scores to present to Tufts (if I am rejected), and everything else that is a part of my application makes me a competitive candidate, then will Tufts reconsider the rejection, if I am rejected? Thanks.

Hi Abkid,

Every ED applicant will have one of three decisions: admit, defer, or deny. Admit is good (yay!), defer is less good (...), deny is least good (avert your eyes!). Deferred students have their application reviewed anew in the context of the regular decision pool. So even if one is not offered admission, a deferred student will be reconsidered later on. The process for denied students is over, and those students will not be looked at again.

Abkid, you can't do anything about this now, but this may be of service to others else: part of the reason we offer a second round of Early Decision with a later deadline is to give students extra time, if needed, to bring their application together. Students that plan to take, or retake, their testing in December are served by applying ED2.

Thank you, thank you...

I applied ED1 and haven't had an interview yet. I spoke with the coordinator for my area more than a week ago and they said they passed on my name and I probably would be contacted, but I haven't heard anything. Anyone know if it means anything that I haven't been contacted ? Is there anything I should do?

I don't think its a bad thing, but if they said that you're name has been passed around they might just not have an available interviewer in your area that can interview you.

Personally, I think it's too late now for an interview because the decisions come out in 5-6 business days. You should contact them again and make sure that they know that you wanted to interview, but that the process did not work out in your favor.

What area are you from?

How much does an interview really help?

And will I be notified on TAMS before the actual date?

Unrelated question for Dan:

What are you looking for most in a common app essay? I vacillated between an essay that highlighted an accomplishment, and an essay that was about an experience (and was very natural) but didn't really "toot my horn" I guess is the only way to put it...

Dan- seeking an update on status: did you or did you not infect your peers, and if not, when can we expect the ED decisions to be available online?

Mal18, I've posted an answer to your question in a different thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/tufts-university/611786-college-essays-difference-between-who-you-what-you-do.html

Titus, of perhaps Shakespeare's most violent tragedy: we're all healthy. I'm still not going to promise anything about the date of decisions, but I will say we're all healthy.

I hope that healthy means tomorrow :).
