I have read several reviews on Tufts online and quiet a few of them mention the cliques they have noticed on campus. How accurate are some of these statements? Is it very common?(For example do most minorities hangout only with other minorities or is it only a few people that self-segregate?) How often do you see a group of friends that are made up of a variety of different backgrounds? I know it happens, but how much does it happen?

Anyone? bump

It’s no different than any school.
The friends you choose to make are 100% up to you.

I disagree - a lot of times minority students self-segregate, especially Asian American and African American students. And there definitely are cliques here. That said, there’s also mixed groups of friends, and the cliques are full of really great, open, friendly people.

At such a small school though, especially with cliques, how hard is it to make friends. Im hoping to transfer, and the school I go to now is very cliquey, impossible to make friends unless you make them as an incoming freshman. Is tufts at all like that?

It is easy to make friends at Tufts, and the more different things you do - in terms of sports, activities and non-mainstream classes (e.g., Ex College seminars, dance, and various PE classes from tennis to Yoga) - the greater the likelihood of making more friends from different backgrounds.

Thanks everyone for your input!
