I have a question for a current Tufts student. Boston gets the nickname of 'America's college town,' and I know how many colleges are in Boston and the surrounding area, but how much do Tufts students interact with other students from Boston schools? Do you have a lot of friends from other schools in Boston that you met since coming to college? Do you go to parties at the other schools? How easy is it to meet kids from other colleges in the area?

Here’s a couple of quick examples. This includes walking to Davis Square and taking the train there, and it’s a conservative estimate.

Tufts to Harvard: 25min
Tufts to MIT: 30min
Tufts to Northeastern or BU: 45min
Tufts to BC: 75min
Tufts to Wellesley: an hour there, two hours back.

So it’s very much what you make of it. I personally only have a few friends at other Boston schools that I hadn’t known before college / met outside of the school year, but I know it can and is different for other people. If you’re in to the Boston music scene, for example, or have other reasons to be in Boston more often, you’ll definitely get to know kids from other schools.

I think it depends on the student and how much they want to venture away for nightlife, events, etc.

My son had very little interaction with students from other schools and never wished for more. He enjoyed the social life on Tufts’ campus and in nearby Davis Square. Senior year he and his friends would occasionally go into Boston, Harvard Square, etc, but that wasn’t the norm for them. Other Tufts students partake of city life quite often. It depends on the person.
