It bothers me that the exact same people apply to Tufts, G-Town, Emory, etc....yet, Tufts doesn't get it's page on that section of the forums, nor does it get its own special additional forum for each new class, such as this years 2010, just aggrivating... :

I agree with you. Tufts is as good or better than several of the colleges in the list. And in some areas of study, it is better than all of them. The fact that Tufts is not in that section is absolutely ridiculous.

I think they should just take all of those special things out.

Or have a certain count. As in if there are 500 posts in a forum then the college gets it.

^ Yeah, true. I don't know, just bothers me that certain schools get that, I know I sound ridiculous, but...

Very understandable :) Afterall, without school pride ... what use is the school forum? :)

But, all things aside the Tufts forum can be a bit slow at time. Other forums have introductions, etc. etc. and we're a bit lacking :(

Do you go to Tufts Duff?

Duff was accepted ED I : )

^ Yep! :) I can't wait to go.

Hi. What are the chances of getting in to Tufts if you've been deferred? I mean, are there any statistics as to how many kids are accepted or rejected after they've been deferred from the Early Decision?

I don't believe those statistics are available because if they are I haven't seen them (though frankly I haven't tried to look for them).

i was deferred. i called and was told that they generally defer 30% and out of those 10% will be accepted.

Deferral is not a death sentence, but there are ways in which you can give yourself a statistically better shot than through idle hoping. Getting another glowing letter of rec, doing something amazing in your school extra curricular wise, or writing them another letter might be able to tip the balance in your favor.

I just compared my USN report to the "Top Univs", and basically if you look at the top 28 univ listed by USN they are all either in "Top Univ" or in the Ivy League section except for Tufts. Tufts is ranked 27th, but they put in UNC (ranked 28th) in Tufts' place.

Yes, which is ridiculous. I don't know what in the world CC is thinking.

I would certainly hope that current Tufts students and alums consider Tufts a top university. Problem is that people outside of that group (Tufts students/alums) probably don't think of Tufts at all. It's just not a very high profile school.

I don't agree with you. So, you are basically saying that only tufts students, alumni, and people applying to Tufts think about it? lol, please...

Yup, thats my contention. Laugh at it if you must. Hope you feel better!

conde- it really is a low profile school when compared to ivies, mit, the top liberal arts schools, schools like vanderbilt and wustl, etc. i live on the west coast and you would not believe how many intelligent people (students, parents, random adults) that have not even heard of tufts. many of those who HAVE heard of it dont know its a fantastic school, they just recognize the name. im sure it is different on the east coast, but in the national picture, there is no denying tufts maintains a low profile.

Yes I think I would agree with you to some extent. In the east coast, Tufts is very well known and very prestigious, specially in New York and Boston. I guess it is a regional situation. Many people in the northeast have not heard of WUSTL, Vanderbilt, Emory, etc from what I have noticed. I had a different opinion because I am international and in my country many of the top government officials have an undergrad or grad degree from Tufts, and that is how I first got interested in the school. However, I believe that in America, the people that matter (Employers, Grad schools, etc) are very familiar with Tufts and its excellent quality.

Ya. Many people here (Texas) have never heard of Tufts. Honestly, I had never heard of Tufts until about a year ago and then I visited it this summer and I fell in love with the school! Haha...I'm even doing my college projects over Tufts. I guess that's a little obsessive? I applied early to Tufts but I was deferred. I was wondering what kinds of things could I do to "tip the balance in my favor". And Snuffles, what did you mean by writing them another letter? I mean what would you say in such a letter?

i think it's idiotic too. i mean, UNC Chapel Hill is on that list, randomly. Tufts constantly gets this bad rap b/c of our endowment, our lack of need-blind admissions, and the fact that it's mostly revered by northeasterners...however, PROFESSIONALS all know and respect it, so it's really all that matters.

My friend Katya thinks that the less people in her school know about Tufts, the better, b/c then they won't apply and she'll have a better chance of getting in :-D so I guess it may be a good thing, that we don't get as many prestige name whores as the Ivies :-D
