Can you guys please tell me what chances I have at my favorite schools? Thank you!!
Ethnicity: Indian
I’m from NC
ACT = 32
SAT subject tests taken so far:
Math 2 - 700
Planning on taking Bio
Current weighted GPA: 4.68 (will go up!)
Unweighted: 4.0
Rank: 12th out of 460
I take all IB classes
Extra curriculars:
- Science Olympiad
- Photography
Volunteer work: (450 ish hour total)
- tutoring at elementary school
- volunteering programs over the summer
- volunteering at library
- volunteering at the hospital
I have also done various summer pre college programs at Wellesley college, U of R, and BU.
My essay and teacher recs will prob be good, but not the best.
Do you think I have a chance at any of these schools:
- Duke
- UPenn
- Brown
- Tufts
- Davidson

Your act is low for the schools you listed.
All excellent schools. I would imagine you are pretty competitive at Davidson already. You might want to consider taking the SAT if you don’t think you can push that ACT up (hey, it’s already good…). My other suggestion: Why don’t you try to push those ECs a bit-- not by adding more of them, but by doing something distinctive with them. If you love photography then try to directly translate that into a significant project that combines your love for photography with the ambition to pull off something cool and valuable-- maybe, say, directing your volunteer activities towards training younger kids in photography, and then leading them in creating some public art or an installation or exhibit that addresses a relevant issue in your community. Schools want to see some accomplishment in your ECs and volunteer work. And, quite frankly, you’ll get better experience from it too (experience that you can parlay into better internships and jobs down the line).
Think you’re good for tufts and davidson for sure, your ecs look fairly solid and your GPA is pretty insane. I would saw you have a good/decent shot for everything u listed. My friend got into UPenn & her only EC was tennis and she had a 3.9 / 2150
I have a 32 ACT too and want to go to Brown. When I looked on the Brown site, it said the average ACT was 32… does that mean I should try to bring up a 32 if I want to go there? At first I thought a 32 was good enough, but after what you said, I’m not so sure?
I am a parent and a professor and don’t usually answer chance threads. I think you should read the following thread on the Parents’ forum, because you have the classic “all reach - no match/safety” list.

A good student like you needs to look at more match schools- not just the reaches you have listed. These schools look way beyond the stats - it’s NOT about “so and so got in with a 30 ACT, and so I should be a shoo-in”…
