@Qwerty568 I think it sounds fantastic! I’d love to be able to do it. Are you?
@reecie569 I would really like to do a gap year to become fluent in Spanish, so I’d love to do their Madrid program! If it doesn’t work out with Tufts I’m also considering a year in Uruguay or Chile.
Any intl applicants or expats on this page?
I am an international applicant but I actually live in CT (long story). I have lived in CT for the past 12 years but due to reasons beyond my control I had to apply as an international student.
well thats certainly peculiar…an an american expat lving in the UK the situation is far from normal here either
@Qwerty568 I’m in a very similar boat! I’d love to become fluent in Spanish, and I’m feeling like the only way to do so is through something like what Tufts offers. But I’ll definitely find a way to travel either way, whether in the 1+4 program or study abroad.
I uploaded IDOC documents on Feb 16th and they still have NOT been processed. I know the colleges will use the upload date to verify info. was submitted on a timely basis. However I just spoke with an IDOCS rep. after being on hold for over 40 minutes and he said processors are “so far behind” that they would not give the IDOC reps a date or guarantee when they will be uploaded when families call in to check on status. More importantly, the IDOC rep said that just because the website now says they are processing documents as of Feb 18 does NOT mean that all documents submitted before that date have been processed. In fact, he said as of yesterday (3/2) they were still processing documents that were uploaded in early February! If the docs aren’t uploaded by end of March, some families will get NO financial aid decision with admissions decisions.
@reecie569 Yep, if it doesn’t work out with Tufts I’m planning on applying to CIEE’s Chile&Spain gap year program! I’m very excited
@GSikka I’m intrigued as to why you had to apply as an international applicant. Just out of curiosity, can you share? It’s totally okay if it’s too personal though.
Any word on the decision date?
@whats9plus10 I’m pretty sure I’ve heard March 27th, but I could be wrong.
Last year, Tufts decisions were released on the 28th. That is a Saturday this year, so I think the Friday before (27th) is a safe bet.
Over 3 weeks? Ughhhh.
@Qwerty568 Tell me about it :-SS
I don’t even know what to do with myself in the meantime.
@lavalamp97 I moved from India to CT in 2003 when I was in first grade, and my family applied for a green card in October of 2004. However, due to a backlog of applications, I have yet to receive my green card, so I am not considered a “permanent resident”. It’s frustrating because I’ve grown up all my life here but due to reasons beyond my control am still having to apply among the students applying internationally. It makes being admitted ten times harder and getting financial aid nearly impossible. My brother had to go through the same situation and he was lucky enough to get accepted at Tufts, and get 75% merit scholarship (this was about 6 years ago when they actually gave merit scholarships, he graduated last May)
@GSikka Wow, that’s extremely frustrating. I’m really sorry you’re in that situation. Hopefully things turn out for you the way they did for your brother.
@lavalamp97 Thank you and it’s ok I’m not worried. what happens, happens. Wish the best of luck to everyone! hopefully the letters come out earlier this year, I don’t feel like waiting too much longer
@GSikka Upwards of 11 years to get a green card? You should be considered a naturalized citizen by now! That’s so unfortunate; I’m so sorry.
it’s ok, it is what it is. Thank you though @Qwerty568
