Teacher Rec #1: Assume it was great - Latin teacher of 4 years, very close relationship and my son sees him as a mentor more than a teacher
Teacher Rec #2: Assume it was great - Precalc and AP CS teacher, she knows DS really well and can vouch for his passion and curiosity as well as his compassion toward others and willingness to spend his free time tutoring kids outside of the peer tutor program.
Counselor Rec: Assume it was AWESOME! She interviewed faculty, admin, coaches, etc, to get quotes for her letter and I’m guessing bc DS is well regarded that it was extremely favorable.
Additional Rec:
Interview: Not sure if he got one…

Reflection Feels kind of bad bc Tufts was high on his list and he never thought he had a chance to get into Yale, but he did. He went in pretty sure he would get into Tufts, though, and if Yale hadn’t worked out, he would most likely be attending Tufts.
Strengths: Strong recs, strong ECs, really strong stats and URM
Weaknesses: Needed substantial aid
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: He was a really strong applicant and his GC has a really good relationship with Tufts. She was positive he would get in.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted - Yale (most likely to attend), Boston College, WPI, UDelaware Honors, Colby College, Hamilton College
Rejected - MIT (after deferral from EA), Princeton
General Comments: Always be yourself. My son got admitted to almost all the colleges to which he applied because he stood out as a compassionate leader and role model at his school. He also did everything at 100%, no cutting corners. I think his work ethic and his ability to lead others with kindness and respect is what made the difference. He just spent four years working hard and being himself, not what he thought colleges were looking for. Many times, I advised him to do something differently bc it might hurt his chances of getting into X, Y, or Z college, and he said, “But Mom, I’m not doing it to get into college, I’m doing it because I love it.” So stick to who you are and you will end up at the perfect college for you
