I'm applying to Tufts mainly because of their 7 year dental program; once you're admitted, you're eligible for applying to the program at the end of first year. I'm an international, so I've never been to Boston area. How prestigious is Tufts dental school? I heard it's near Chinatown. How is it compared to other dental schools in that area such as Harvard and BU? I know there's no "official" ranking for dental schools, but can anyone rank them?

My understanding is Tufts & Cornell have the best dental schools in the country.

Cornell does not have a dental school.

You must be thinking of Veterinary schools… My perception is that Tufts dental has a pretty good reputation, though.

Tufts has a very reputable dental school. PM me if you have more questions because I’m in the 7 year dental program.

I’ll take dental school reputability for a grain of salt.

I’m from Boston and lived in Boston my entire life. I have never even heard of Harvard School of Dental Medicine but I have heard of Tufts and heard that it was among the best dental schools in the nation…

but I haven’t heard of Harvard School of Dental Medicine… which is arguably better.

This is lieu of any dental school rankings mind you. lol I never even heard of University of Maryland Baltimore’s Dental School… which is the first dental school in the nation. lol

And Maryland’s DM program is spectacular (I’m a Baltimorean, so I must represent my home state).

Reputation, especially for Dental medicine, isn’t nearly as important as the quality of teaching and the strength of facilities. (Though, my dentist is a Tufts dental student and I can vouch from a patient perspective on how strong the school is)

Tufts undergrad because you like the Dental School is a fine reason to apply, but there should be MUCH more to the decision than just that piece. After all, what if you aren’t admitted to Tufts Dental?
