I really don't know which one to do. Both are reaches for me, but Tufts is obviously easier to get in to. I visited and like both schools, actually i'm IN LOVE with everything about Brown. I'm just not so sure I should apply ED there because my chances of getting in are a lot lower. So if I apply ED to Brown, and get rejected, then I lose my chances of applying early to Tufts as well. I'm just really confused.

Number-wise, I'm not the best applicant. My GPA is a 3.7-3.8 unweighted, I'm in the top 5% of my class, and my SAT score is low. I'm still working on that though, so it should be around a 2050-2150. My ECs are great, essays and everything else will be great as well.

So as you can see, I'm not in the best position for either school, but I really like both (LOVE Brown) so I'm very confused. Any help, comments, advice, etc???

For many colleges,as the admissions office will tell you, once you factor out the legacies/development candidates, recruited athletes and other "hooked' categories the rest of the early applicants have no better admission statistics than the regular round admissions. There is a Tufts admissions officer who regularly posts on CC (check threads) who says that applies to Tufts; I've never checked for a Brown equivalent. If you're really sure you want to go to Brown and you don't need to compare financial aid packages from other other schools (which would not be disclosed until making you an offer in regular round decision), go with Brown.

First thing is first. Going ED means that you have to accept the finacial aid package from XYZ school regardless if you like it or not unless you truly cannot afford it (rare in most cases, its hard to get out of an ED because you can't pay), so make sure you can afford it and you know what your getting yourself into just by the simple fact of going ED.

With that said, You can probably get into Tufts RD. Soo.... ED to Brown.

Not necessarily true! I'm pretty sure Tufts has ED II, so if you get rejected from Brown you can still apply ED to Tufts (unless Tufts dropped ED II this year).

Apply to the school you truly love ED, assuming you don't need to compare fin. aid packages. I wouldn't apply to Tufts ED, because if you get in, that's the end of your dreams of Brown. If you get rejected from Brown ED, I'm thinking you can still get into Tufts RD if you demonstrate enough interest. And if coolman is right about Tufts having ED II (I'm not sure if they do or not, myself), then that sounds like the perfect solution do your dilemma.

Hmm, Tufts ED II actually does sound like a good plan. Does that mean I can only apply to that school and no other school RD though?

Financially, I know I won't qualify for much aid, so it really won't be a big deal either way. I've discussed this with my parents and they said they are willing to pay.

If ED II is similar to regular ED, it means that you can apply to other schools, but if you are accepted ED to Tufts, you are bound to attend there and should withdraw your other applications.

Yeah do Brown ED I and Tufts ED II. One of my friends got deferred from her dream school (Georgetown) and got in on Tufts ED II. Had to withdraw all her applications to the other colleges she applied to RD, but that's perfectly fine.

Don't do EDII to Tufts... if you get deferred from Brown and get accepted RD to Brown, you will regret it so much. Your stats are probably good enough to get into Tufts RD.

I think you should go with Brown ED and look for more schools that excite you. Consider the University of Rochester too-- open curriculum, similar size, urban environment, really great school.
