Tufts ED

Hi, what are my chances of getting into Tufts ED? Basically the situation is, my mother works at Tufts and my brother is just getting out of Cornell so she really wants me to get in so we can get a tuition break (tuition would be waived). I would like to major in economics or political science / international relations.

Cumulative Unweighted GPA - 3.5515
Cumulative Weighted GPA - 4.21
Cumulative Weighted GPA (used for rank) - 8.4929 / 9.5-10 ish?? (we are the first class that they are using this new gpa system on)
Rank-in-Class - 9 / 306

My school only allows seniors to take AP courses. I've taken all honours courses so far and pulled a few strings freshman year, so I'm in AP French right now (This gives me a significant weighting boost which accounts for my low unweighted and high weighted GPAs). I really like foreign languages so I skipped French 2, Spanish 1 and Spanish 3.

Senior Year Courses:

AP European History
AP Physics
AP Chemistry
AP Calculus
Honours Idea of Man (12th grade English, no AP courses offered)
Honours Spanish IV

SAT:

New Sat Scores Pending.. Took a Princeton Review Course over the summer and scored 2100-2250 ish (high 700 - 800 for math.. mid 600- low 700 for verbal and mid 600 - mid 700 in writing)
SAT II E. Bio - 640
SAT II Chem - 710
SAT II French - 710 (took it sophmore year, might retake it in june?)
SAT II US History - 750

Taking Physics, Math IIC, and something else (yet to decide) in June

Extracurriculars:

Cross Country- 9,10,11,12
Volunteer Work at Chinese School - 10,11,12
Piano at New England Conservatory Prep School - 9 years
Tutoring Two Chinese Girls Adopted by American Parents in Chinese- 9,10,11,12
Founder / President of Young Republicans - 11,12
Republican Advisor to Current Events Club - 11,12
Community Service Club - 10,11,12
International Club - 11,12
Spanish Club - 11,12
Elected Delegate to Student Gov't Day - 11
The Young Republicans also put out a bi-weekly conservative publication.

Interestingly enough, because of the newsletter, some teachers were a little peeved and I just found out today that my application to National Honour Society was rejected due to "character flaws."

So in sum, my mother works at Tufts and she would like me to apply early decision. Should I not get in, I'm looking at Penn, Vandy, Washington and Lee, and perhaps NYU. Do I have a shot (BTW, I'm an Asian-American living in a suburb a little north of Boston)?

I'm trying to get an appeals process going for NHS. Does it even help that much?

no (10 chars)

You definitely have a good shot. Stats are not bad, keep working on those SATs to have more of an edge. Great EC's. Applying ED with definitely help you. Good luck!

your mom works there...of course you'll get in

And I would retake the French SAT II in June; you will have just finished (or almost finished) AP French and will be in a good position to do really well on the SAT II.

Ugh. SAT scores are out.. and it's not looking so good.

680 Math
600 CR
720 Writing
10 Essay
71 MC

I'm not quite sure how this happened, but I'm retaking it in May and I'm thinking about taking.. perhaps.. gasp.. the ACT? Any suggestions?

Also, after a long appeals process, I finally got into National Honour Society.

So 2 corrections -

EC-
Add National Honour Society

SAT-
..2000..

Thanks yall.

dude... lol, you'll probly get in,
your stats are alone probly enuf for Tufts
and if your mom works there... dang... :P

yeah just to clear this up i agree that you have a shot, i was rereading this thread and i realized that it might have seemed like i said no as in no you dont have a shot.
you definitely have a shot, i meant no NHS isnt that important,
but hey if you got into it anyway congratulations

with regard to those sats...they dont need to be much higher, especially considering you are a faculty child

just prep and bring the scores up a bit and you should be fine

Well, after visiting a bunch of schools over vacation. I've decided that Tufts isn't really my favourite. However, I am still applying ED because I would really feel guilty if I didn't at least get the tuition break for 1-2 year(s), seeing as my brother is just getting out of Cornell the year I become a freshman. I would like to transfer out, but is there any chance I could get into Yale? I'm really loving the Southern schools too, especially W&L, Vandy, and UNC-Chapel Hill. Maybe I romaticize the South too much? But, I felt as if practically everyone was nicer / more warm-hearted. While I understand that every school has a conservative population (except for those weirdo leftist schools like Grinnell and Simon's Rock College of the Bard or something like that.. hehe Columbia?), I am really looking to be at a school that is predominantly conservative or has a strong conservative presence on campus. Thanks again yall (<--- I've already got the Dixie thing going eh?) ^^

WE DON'T WANT NO REPUBLICANS IN MASSACHUSETTS!

Chapel Hill is pretty liberal.

tufts loves the ed'ers, i thinku'd get in

May SAT Scores

770 Math
610 Verbal
720 Writing

=2100

June SAT IIs pending

Physics -
Math IIC -
French (retake) -

should i retake to bring up verbal if im applying to arts & sciences?
