Thanks

u accept by may 1st... fin aid isnt out yet and will be only After april 7th...
so, there is plenty of time to respond after getting aid

Fin aid was mailed Monday (4/3), so you can probably get it in the mail before it's posted online Friday.

Actually, it's online now.

I got my FinAid package today in the mail in Boston. They gave me more than WashU or DUke but less than Harvard. So, I guess Tufts is not very likely for me to choose any more.

We are sorry that we cannot offer you a financial aid award for your first year. Because our expectation from your family resources exceeds projected expenses at Tufts for the 2005-2006 year, you are not eligible for grant aid, subsidized Federal Stafford Loan nor Federal Work-Study. Please be assured that we have reviewed your application carefully and have made every effort to establish eligibility for federal and Tufts aid programs.

Ouch...that stung.

i'm pretty upset... i just checked my finaid online. they gave me $0 in grants, some loans, and workstudy totalling almost $3000. while my family, according to FAFSA, is supposed to pay a pretty large part of the expensive, this doesn't even come close to meeting the rest of it.
does anyone know if this is really the final package, or will a different one come in the mail? if so, i can't believe tufts would be that stingy. NO grants whatsoever? its ridiculous!! my family seriously can't afford that. ugh.

I didn't get anything either, alanstewart. Not that I really expected anything, but I was hoping Tufts used a magical EFC formula that would give me at least a bit of aid.

yea this sucks, I'm visiting next week so I guess I'll swing by the financial aid office and lobby my case.

My financial aid package pretty much assumed the same EFC as the FAFSA, which isn't exactly accurate.

I guess this means I'm going to be at Wellesley next year then :P. Their financial aid package was much more reasonable.

wow, nothing, squat, natta...I'm still going, but I was at lest hoping for something you know?

haha i guess i'm the only poor person on this board lol...Tufts gave me 38,000 in grants and 2200 in loans and work study, which is slightly more than Middlebury so my decision just got even harder because i was pretty much set on Middlebury until now.

Question...does anyone know what tution is for next year? Not the number that they have on the financial aid page that includes money for personal expenses, etc. but just tution and room and board. Like how much will we be billed for?

^ No, I got 32,800 in grants, 6,200 in feder grants, 2,200 in loans, and 1600 in work study...unfortunately, the grant from Tufts was higher until recently....I might have to call them...

Question...how do outside scholarships work? Do they reduce what Tufts gives me (grants)? Also, some of the money would be coming from my dad's work (Yale Press), so it's not exactly a scholarship.

You guys can always try to blackmail them using other schools need-based merit packages. It also may help to get your admissions officer lobbying on your side. Good Luck, i know the fin aid office sucks for middle class families.

Total Expenses $48,000.00
Family Contribution $37,500.00
Need $10,500.00

My FAFSA EFC is 13,000 on a 30k income. How the hell can I pay $37,500?????? This is crazy

I'm another poor person on this board apparently. I recieved $30,800 grant per year, $4100 loan per year, and $2000 work study per year from them.

I feel like Tufts is the kind of school you can only go to if you're extremely wealthy or extremely poor because they don't give out any merit scholarships. If you're in the middle, it stinks because who really wants to pay $30,000 a year.
I'm glad I'm on the poorer end of things, although I still have to pay about $2000 more to go to Tufts than any other school, but I love it, so what can I say?

well, It sucks like hell. Especially since they want me to pay more than my parents INCOME each year..

inc: 30k odd
Want: 37.5k

Tufts didn't give me anything, except for a small loan, which in the grand scheme of things isn't worth the interest we'd have to pay on it. This really sucks because even though my family can technically afford to pay the full tuition, it'll be a tight squeeze, since I have two little sisters who'll go to college eventually too. USC gave me the Trustee scholarship, which is a full ride regardless of need. But since it's merit based, I don't think there's a way I can use that to negotiate with Tufts. Is there any way of asking for work study or ANYTHING that could ease the financial burden? I feel awful shunning a full ride at USC just because my heart is set on Tufts.
