I plan on taking both French and Arabic this fall. How easy is it to take two languages at once? Also having studied three years of French in high school, are the results of the placement test what they recommend you take or is it the class you have to take? On the website it states that the lowest level of French I could take is elementary French II, if the results are recommended and I could chose between levels would it be reasonable to take elementary French II as a refresher or should I take say.. Intermediate French I if I test into it?

Much depends on how good you are at languages. My son has told others that the Arabic teachers at Tufts are both fabulous and sadists. They don’t mind passing out C’s and they give more work than any other language, in his opinion. OTOH if you stick with Arabic you will speak and write a lot more than students in other schools. My son could never do another language in addition to Arabic, but it’s not his area of strength. He does have friends who have taken multiple languages including Arabic. (A lot of them started out bilingual which I do think gives you an edge.)

Personally I think you should take the French class that you place into.
