I’m deciding on wheter to apply to Tufts or Amherst. My parents are letting me choose from one of them. Currently, I’m leaning towards Amherst, but I’m totally open to your opinions! I’m a bioengineering major, but also interested in biology, neuroscience, or psychology
Here my outline so far:
Tufts: I absolutely love that it’s located in Boston! however, when I visited it felt like a liberal artsy campus, which I don’t like about it. Some people were just plain weird and the information session lady was talking about art the entire time! She completely disregarded the sciences and engineering departments! I feel this school is full of artists, not so much scientists. This is what vibe I got from school, but let me know if I’m wrong about this.
Amherst: Haven’t visited, but some of my friends last year went there. They say love it, but is this a good match for my major. I’m not going into the humanities, so it doesn’t seem like a good match.
I’m not sure which one is a better fit for me? Any suggestions?
Do you mean UMass Amherst? It does have engineering, not sure if bio-E.
If you mean Amherst College, no engineering. But it does offer majors in “biology, neuroscience, psychology”, also biochemistry/biophysics.
Amherst is a liberal arts college so it’s going to feel like a liberal-artsy campus to you also, most likely. The sciences listed above are also liberal arts, by the way.
No I mean Amherst, the liberal arts school. At Amherst, I would most likely be a biology major. And at Tufts, bioengineering. But Tufts doesnt seem like an engineering focused school, so Im leaning towards Amherst.
You do realize that Amherst College defines itself as a liberal arts college, right? If you don’t like "liberal artsy’ places, why would you be interested in either Tufts or Amherst?
@nevergiveupp maybe Tufts isn’t engineering focussed per se, but Amherst doesn’t even have an engineering program!! It would be ridiculous to argue that Amherst is more engineering focussed than Tufts.
Again, I am confused as to why you are considering either of these schools. If one doesn’t feel like a good fit and the other you know nothing about other than that it doesn’t offer your intended major, then what exactly do you like about either of them? There are tons of other schools out there that would make much more sense for you.
