Which one should I choose if i want to go into politics, economics, etc?? Prestige? Quality? Reputation? Please help me. Money is not a factor.

Either will provide an excellent education. Our S was accepted at both and chose BU. Initially, I preferred Tufts since the urban environment unnerved me. I thought being near Boston meant Tufts had the best of both worlds. Then we were told the Tufts kids rarely venture into the city and the T stops running at an early hour making it difficult for the few that do.

I liked some of the uniqueness of Tufts academics. However, our S stayed overnight there and came away with the impression that the BU urban experience, with all the action ,was best for his college experience. So it may have more to do with the kind of lifestyle you see yourself enjoying for your college years.
Were you offered Honors program at BU?

No I was not offered the honors program at BU. Did I have to apply? Anyways, how come Tufts is much higher in the US News rankings than BU? Which one do you honestly think will help me get into a top graduate school? Isn't Tufts much more prestigious than BU, and in the same league as Northwestern, Rice, Emory, etc?

I don't feel comfortable answering your questions about Tufts, but I can tell you that the BU honors program is not something you apply to.

If you were accepted at Tufts your stats are high enough for the BU Honors Program. Call admissisons and ask. You do not need to apply and should have received a letter about it but things like than can fall through the cracks so you should call or email Admissions and the Honors Program. Tell them you are deciding between BU and Tufts and ask them to find out if you are accepted into BU Honors Program. (You can read about it on BU's homepage. BTW you can get into Honors even after Fresh. year) There is Honors Housing, Bay St Rd townhouses primarily, but most Honors kids choose regular dorms. See thread on this below.

Tufts is considered to be a more prestigious school since its stats are higher, for what thats worth. Although many people have never heard of Tufts, at least outside of the NE, so its strange. The US News ranking are questionable and seem to be more about selling magazines. Things like the size of the endowment and other irrelevant factors come into play where as most feel the fit is really what makes a particular school a positive experience. Even Ivy administrators admit that the differences among achool any more has narrowed considerably. Thats good news since it means more students are getting a quality education and at a larger variety of schools.

There are many threads on CC debating the merit of prestige. Some thinking its important while others debunking it as irrelevant in this day and age and in some circumstances, like when your boss is a state school grad, could have the opposite effect you thought it would have....so, hard choice. Personally I wouldn't make a decision based on that factor. BU is urban so are you drawn to the city environment? Thats is a big difference from Tufts.
