Tufts or Middlebury?

Hi everyone. I was accepted at a few of the schools I applied to, and now I've managed to narrow down my choice to two options: Tufts and Middlebury. I'll be visiting both campuses in about two weeks, but I was hoping for some advice/guidance in the mean time. I'm not sure what I would like to major in, but my interests include political science, business, history, social sciences, architecture and environmental studies.

At Middlebury I was admitted as a Feb, which means I would only be able to attend starting in February of next year. I wasn't crazy about the notion of having such a large gap between high school and college at first, but I've warmed up to the idea since. I've also been hearing some negative comments about the student body at Middlebury. I'm not hyper-competitive or jockish at all, and I'm more on the quiet side and not really into the whole work-hard, play-harder mentality. Tufts is bigger and is closer to Boston, which means there is more going on. I'm not sure whether I want/need to be near a city, but I think it might be a good option.

I would really appreciate some advice. Thanks!

Middlebury is very much known for environmental studies as you have probably heard. The college is also very committed to environmental issues----they have their own organic garden, for example, which many students are involved in. When you’re there stop by the Environmental affairs building and also ask to meet with students who are involved in these activities. Not everyone is a jock! If you are quiet, it’s possible that a smaller school with the commons system will help you meet people and feel connected. Ask about the commons system when you’re there.
