Tufts or Middlebury??

So i'm trying to decide between Tufts and Middlebury and I want as many opinions as possible. The parents on CC seem to be an extremely well informed group of people so I was wondering if ne one could provide ne insight into this decision. In case it matters, I'm not really sure about my major. I know I want to eventually be a college professor, but i have little bit a dilemma. I love pretty much every subject lol. I woudl really love to major in history and a language but I wouldn't really want to teach history. So right now i'm leaning towards math, which I really enjoy as well. Any opinions??

Congratulations on these two acceptances! Good for you. I am an alum from Tufts but I also live not too far from Middlebury. Both are great options. I don't think you need to worry right now about the major. Both schools offer a liberal arts curriculum and I think you can explore or study what you wish at either given your varied interests. There are other differences between the schools. The size of each school is different as well as the location. Only you can decide if you prefer a certain size learning environment and/or if you wish to be near a city or in a place like Vermont (though Burlington is not too far but Tufts is much closer to the city and a bigger one as well). I don't know your EC interests and if the offerings at one school differ than the other in those interest areas. I think a lot of it comes down to the feel of the place and how you feel you fit in. I encourage you to do an in depth visit if you haven't already or go back for an overnight or accepted student event (I know Tufts has one as I went to it with my kid who got in two years ago and liked the school very much and almost went but ended up at Brown). Those events and the overnight and observing classes and meeting the current students and accepted ones really can help with the "gut feeling" of the decision. I bet if you go to these, it will sway you one way or the other. Also, it helps to make a list of all the pros/cons or appealing points of each school and that sometimes makes it clearer which one pops out as meeting your college criteria/preferences better. Lastly, the good news is you can't go wrong....two great schools and you apparently like both so it is a win win situation. Good luck!

Mid is one of the best places in the country to study languages, so a vote for Mid on that count. But more important is setting; I would be surprised if someone was equally happy at rural Mid and Tufts in the Boston area. Visit and I think you'll have a feeling one is better than the other for you. But as far as your future, both great schools and you're not losing anything with either of them. It really is a "win-win" choice.

Both good schools, but speaking as a person who graduated from a school whose location was similar to Middlebury's, and whose size was just a little bigger, I can say that by senior year one gets awfully tired of the same old people. I'd go w/ Tufts any day.
