Tufts Parents Weekend

I live in the Pacific Northwest and am deciding whether to visit my daughter (freshman) on Parent's Weekend or another time in the fall. I visit my son at college on a weekend in October that is not Family Weekend because it's a less frenzied weekend and other parents have told me that it is not worth it. He is also on the East Coast.

Is the Tufts family weekend good? Worth going across the US vs. going a quieter time when the campus is not crawling with people?

We have done both. Although it is not as much of a trip for us. We have never done the speeches or academic sessions at parents weekend. We have never done the athletic events. We have meandered down professors row for the afternoon to watch all the musical and performance groups, which is very nice. Fall in Boston is always very busy because of the beautiful weather and the foliage, and the DCs get very busy with other activities so it is sometimes easier to fit into their schedule when all the other parents are there too.

What 1012 mom said…I totally agree. We visited parent’s weekend freshman year. The activities are enjoyable and your child will likely have school stuff to do part of the weekend. It’s nice to meet other parents and it wasn’t crazy crowded. I would recommend reserving the hotel now just in case, since sometimes they fill up that time of the year.

DCs ? – "and the DCs get very busy with other activities "

We were trying to get it together to go to Parents W/e. To the ones who are not driving distance to Tufts:
*do you (usually) rent a car when you got to Tufts (during parents w/e)?

I live in CA and always rent a car when I go visit. No hotels are within walking distance and you usually end up making a few trips to Target or Bed, Bath and Beyond for more dorm stuff!

If you’re flying or have flown in, do you recommend that we ask for moving in the day before?
