Tufts Syndrome?

I was kinda surprised that I was waitlisted (34 ACT, 4.0 GPA (uw), first in my class) and people told me they thought it might be “Tufts Syndrome.” If it was, which I doubt, they were right…I wouldn’t have gone to BC even if I’d been accepted.

I’m fairly sure that Tufts no longer does it based on what I’ve seen, but that’s irrelevant to this thread.
Your friend with the 1640 was lucky or showed promise elsewhere in his app, while 1950 is a fairly mediocre SAT for BC. It would be one thing if he had a 2350, but 1950 in no way indicates that he was “too qualified”. Also, we don’t know enough about either one other than their SAT.

While getting into Duke and getting rejected from BC may be a tad surprising, BC and Duke are both more selective than BU and NEU (NU?).

I don’t know if you’re joking, but just having a high SAT in no way guarantees admission to Harvard (or most other schools, for that matter… I know a student at Harvard who scored a 2400 and was rejected from Yale, and a student at Middlebury who was rejected from Brown and Williams, also with a 2400).

elsaphant- Then why even apply?

I applied because I didn’t know if I would get into schools that I preferred over BC. But I did.

Yes, even with my seemingly low GPA, I am in the top 10% of my class…not every school has raging grade inflation.

All I’m saying is that yes, personally, it came as a surprise to me that I was waitlisted at BC, now especially because I got into the top tier UCs and USC…that may not say much to people who don’t live in California, but judging from the way things were going, I thought BC would be a fit/slight (and I mean slight) safety.

But all the well that someone has my spot because I will not be joining the waitlist anyway.

“I thought BC would be a fit/slight (and I mean slight) safety.”

Apparently, you thought wrong. FYI, my scores and EC >>>>>>> yours. By far.

…Good for you? uhh hahahah
