I think you have a good chance. My only issue (or really my college advisor's issue) is that Tufts tends to look first at the numbers... the admissions department is a lot less likely to "look at the whole student" than at other schools, so don't count on your awesome extra curriculars to do much for you. Also, when I visited, they said that they get 4,000 applications a year and you know how many people they have reading them? 10... so that means 400 applications/person, and clearly when you are reading that many, you cannot seriously consider someone based solely on ECs. Just thought I'd put in my two cents...

how sure are you of this? how do you know, ilovedogs?

^^^I agree with princeton10. From everything I have read and heard from Tufts themselves, they look at the whole person, not just numbers. I am suspicious of this...

I disagree. It's my opinion that they actually look at extracurriculars as one of the most important deciding factors (my EC's probably got me in :))

In the past, at my school, Tufts has always wound up accepting the student with the higher SAT score/ GPA-- even if they had literally no extracurriculars. When I visited, and they told me that they have 10 people to read the 4,000+ applications they receive each year, I felt that this fact helped somewhat to verify that. Of course, that's not to say that they never look at ECs or the whole person, but I'd say they look at them less so than other schools. (especially smaller liberal arts schools where they have 50 people reading 1000 applications)

Also I think it has something to do with Tufts trying to prove that it is NOT an Ivy backup... like they WANT the stats of their accepted students to be high, so that way they are comparable to the Ivies... but at the same time, I have heard that if Tufts suspects an overqualified student is applying to Tufts only as a safety, the school will reject him/her. (which I think is a good thing)

ilovedogs: Sorry, that makes no sense, and if you're trying to say they do it more so than most schools, I don't know what you're comparing them to, because in my book, Tufts is a SMALL school, so, saying that, any school that is bigger, even schools like BC, G-Town, etc somehow don't look at the entire applicant and just look at numbers, I'm sorry, but when a school like Tufts emphasizes OFTEN how much they look at the entire applicant, I just can't see that they'd be entirely falsifying what they say, they wouldn't gain much...

ilovedogs is somewhat correct. I talked to an admissions officer and he said to me that they are attempting to make tufts' statistics better in hopes of drawing even better students.

^ Ugh, that worries me, I hope I can get in ED I. :</p>

I guess that would BENEFIT me. Although my GPA is not stellar i have a 2300 SAT and 34 ACT. I hope they like standardized test scores!

I still don't buy it though. I have faith in the Tufts admission process.

Yea, same for me on both accounts.

PhishPhry, I definitely think you have a great shot at getting in :) Good luck!

and... thank you bobbobbob, I was beginning to think I am going crazy (which I actually probably am waiting for ED haha)
