Haha @Mikell- It’s the worst isn’t it? I cannot handle waiting for the results of anything…
well I hope we both get in in April!

So now that I am coherent enough to think, I could use some advice.

The admissions letter offhandedly mentions taking the SATs again. I had a 2080; 800 CR, 640 Math, and 640 Writing. Is it worth it to take the test again? The deadline to register for the March 10 tests is tomorrow, would my scores from March 10 even be available in time? Would an extra 50 or points make a real difference in my application?

D rejected and devastated - recruited athete who did not request financial aid. Good GPA and rank, solid but not stellar scores, good essays, ecs and recs. REally strong senior year course load with good semester grades. Loved Tufts and it showed in essays, interview and video. Oh well.

accepted. im pretty relieved.

Hey Folks - for those of you deferred:

If you’ve spent much time on the CC boards, you’ve noticed that there are many schools that defer like crazy out of ED, that deferral is often a ‘soft rejection.’ I completely understand your disappointment with being deferred, though I want to strongly reassure you that a deferral is NOT a soft deny at Tufts. Deferrals are the least used decision in ED, and we do not defer idly. If you were deferred, it is most likely a sign that one person (at least) in the admissions office really wants to see you at Tufts.

I’m going to resurrect a deferral thread I started a few years ago, and I hope it will be a helpful resource.

It’s been a LONG TIME since I posted on this thread (anyone remember me?) , but I just got my decision.

I was accepted…stunned beyond belief. To all those who were rejected, I sincerely (no, really) say that you guys are quite intelligent (and yes, I’ve seen it by the way you post) and you will be happy wherever you end up. To those who were deferred, I recognize talking to some of you just a few weeks ago, and please send an additional letter, because I do wish to see you at Tufts next year.

Thanks, Dan! I’m shocked, tbh.

Thanks, DanAdmiss, for the info on your office’s use of deferrals in ED. I am wondering if there is an overwhelming bulk of deferrals then who are students who can pay full freight and you are holding onto them in case you need them at the end of the process, given the financial constraints that have led Tufts to abandon need-blind admissions for need-aware. Now that you have been need-aware since the end of the 2009 admissions pool, have you worked out the system so that you don’t have to make all your rejections on account of financial need at the end of the process, but are doing it now earlier in the process? Just wondering. Also, is there any chance your school will get back to need-blind admissions any time soon? Obviously, the lack of need blind admissions continues to hurt Tufts, even as your school somehow remains a very popular choice for many stellar applicants from all backgrounds.

“the lack of need blind admissions continues to hurt Tufts”

Because being need-aware lowers the average incoming stats a tiny bit? It doesn’t affect the desirability of the school nor the quality of education; it affects only the chances of admission, and only for a few on the cusp, AFAIK.

admissionspro: pretty sure he said there were very few deferrals, not an “overwhelming” number. Also pretty sure he laid out that the deferrals tended to be students that had a strong backer in the group, not students who did not require FA. Your sentence where you seem surprised that Tufts “somehow” remains a popular choice is one of the goofiest things I’ve read in awhile…in what way is it “obvious” that Tufts has been “hurt” recently? Please lay out these facts.

@ crushedbones: yeah crushed bones is definitely my favorite off that album but yo yo bye and gemini birthday song are close seconds. alopecia’s an awesome album too

Tufts is 95% need-blind. You could argue it’s de facto need blind. I don’t think a 5% difference, however, is devastating for any institution.

“the lack of need blind admissions continues to hurt Tufts”

^ This is totally a biased opinion, which is not true at all.
I got not-so-high stats, below the average to be honest, and I applied for financial aid because I can’t afford paying ~56k/year. Many people kept telling me I have no chance at Tufts, I trusted them, but I trusted what the admission officers said, if they love me they would accept me no matter what.
Even though Tufts is not a need-blind institution, they does not only care about the numbers.
And guess what, I got accepted EDII.

@HPDaKing

Hey there again fellow Potterhead ;)

I totally agree. I needed a LOT of aid to go, and I got accepted EDII as well!

The moral of the story: I really think Tufts evaluates holistically. Its your interest.

^ Hey there, did you join the facebook page of C/O 2016 yet?
Totally gonna join Harry Potter society and Quidditch team, ain’t you [;

Hell yes, I’m going to join the Quidditch team! (That might have been a key reason I applied ;))

And LOL, I’m the only person in my high school that doesn’t have a Facebook; I live in the old world, unfortunately! But I might get one due to my friends’ peer pressure…

Oh my GOD, there is also a Harry Potter SOCIETY!? AHH!! I’m so excited to be a Jumbo…I’m about to explode right now!

JUMBOS2016 FTW! I’m so excited to see all of you in September!!!

Harry Potter Society is what I heard from other Jumbos in that FB page
And I’ve been wondering if any of you here got selected to be a BLAST Scholar and going to Tufts this summer for 6 weeks also?

What’s the BLAST Scholar Program? Is it academic? Hmmm…I haven’t heard of it! Is this weird or did I miss something…?

“You have been accepted to the School of Arts and Sciences as a BLAST (Bridge to Liberal Arts Success at Tufts) Scholar and your admission to Tufts is contingent upon participation in a six week residential summer program at Tufts from July 1st -August 11th, 2012.
The School of Arts and Sciences in conjunction with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions sponsors a six-week residential summer bridge program for a select group of incoming liberal arts students. The program is designed to give nominated students an opportunity to take two Tufts University courses for credit, and participate in academic and college-life workshops that are designed to assist incoming first year students transition from high school to college.”
That’s how they describe BLAST. In short, I’m gonna learn about survival skill and how to prepare for college life as well.

Wow, congrats! So is the BLAST scholar program something you applied for or did Tufts nominate you? Either way, I bow down to my fellow Jumbo who is ALSO a Tufts BLAST scholar…;)

See, this is the problem, lol. I will be around such intelligent scholars @ Tufts next year that I, a mediocre person, will feel lost in a sea of knowledge.

Anyhow, congrats again!
