I went to Tufts and my brother went to Northwestern. The winters are a lot worse in Chicago than they are in Boston. He got frostbite several times.
The wind whips off that lake like you wouldn't believe.
Also, if you are seriously considering majoring in IR,you should go to Tufts.
Northwestern is a great school, but Tufts has a better reputation in IR I believe.

I came from Hong Kong and NEVER got frostbite during my 4 years in Chicago.

LOL, Frostbite? FROSTBITE dogg? Living in the city people get frostbite? Kids at prestigous universities get frostbite (several times no less!) in the winter time?

Worst lie I've seen on these boards. You probably thought you were going to scare him away from Chicago with the frostbite story didn't you? lol. And for the record I don't believe you that the winters are much worse in Chicago. I don't know, if you would look outside for a second you'd notice that there's about a foot of snow on the ground this morning. And it's April.

There's a pretty sharp contrast in the winter. In addition, Chicago's weather is definitely more volatile than Boston's

Very true. Although IMO Boston>Chicago, I would have made the same decision if I were you.

I guess. I don't know if 5-7 degrees is what I'd call a "sharp difference." I just can't imagine that there's a person out there that would be go, "Chicago too much. Oh, but the winters in the Northeast...piece of cake!!!"

They're both cold during the winter, they both get snow and in neither would any human being that hadn't slipped into a full blown coma ever get frostbite on multiple occasions. I mean really, it's the city for crying out loud. Step into a building or a restaurant for a minute if you're that cold, lol.

Maybe the dude was a model and liked being half-naked.

I'd trust weather.com data more:

As for precipitation, Chicago isn't nearly as snowy.

It's the same data.. There's still a pretty large difference from October to January. I'd rather have snow than wind :P

You need global warming.

Already had it this year. It was quite nice. I don't know about Chicago though.

I don't know either. I've been living in LA for few years.
