Hi! I’m from Texas and planning on transferring from a school in PA to either Tufts or WashU. I have to make my decision tonight and any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I am going to study Arabic, sociology, and law (~things in this realm). I would be an incoming junior. The commute to WashU is easier from my home town, but Boston is a more well-connected city, plus I am interning in Boston this summer (living in a Tuft’s students apartment), so I will have already established a community in Boston. WashU, however, has a bit of a higher ranking nationally and overall better amenities. I only have guaranteed housing at Tufts, so at WashU I would have to find off campus housing AND a roommate. WashU seems like a prettier campus with better campus food, which are two major pluses… as you can probably tell I am struggling to make a decision and would appreciate any help! Thank you.
Good luck. You really can’t go wrong with either school.
Don’t underestimate the impact of the difference in housing at the 2 colleges. Living in a dorm (at Tufts) means you will be spared a lot of the logistical hassles you will have at WashU (finding an apartment/ roommate, getting to/from campus, buying/cooking food, cleaning, etc.), leaving more time to study.
And if you are living off-campus, you generally wouldn’t be eating many meals on-campus, so the better food at WU wouldn’t mean much. The rankings are close enough to be a non-issue. Boston is much more interesting than St.Louis. I’d go with Tufts.
