Tufts vs. Bowdoin?

which would you choose? help!

Consider:

-intellectual atmosphere
-reputation
-opportunities
-location

etc...

bumping bumping bumping pls need help!

nobody wants to help? :(

I can’t comment on the nature of the schools or opportunities as I don’t know about them really. Reputation wise both are good, but I think Tufts is more know to the average person since LAC’s are often overlooked.

Location wise, unless you really want a smaller, more rural area, Boston is one of the best college cities there are, and you’ll probably have a better selection of internships in the city depending on what you want to do.

ohcollege123, my son got into both but didn’t end up going to either, so I’ll just give you the impressions I was left with after visits. Both are terrific schools.

Bowdoin is an LAC, so by its very nature it is more intimate and nurturing. The food is great, as are the dorm rooms and you’ll get to know all your teachers. It’s academically excellent, but there are only so many classes to choose from and only so many people on campus. While some people might feel claustrophobic there, others would like the familiarity. Brunswick is a small town, but Portland isn’t too far away.

Tufts is closer to the action of the big city and is quite a bit larger. It’s more impersonal, so you have to make a bit of an effort to know your instructors, like go to office hours. The dorms are average, the student body more overtly competitive, but there are also more class offerings. It seemed faster paced.

You can’t go wrong at either because employers are fully aware of both if you live on the east coast. The west coast is less conscious of them. Grad schools everywhere know both.
