These are the three schools I'm deciding between right now. I'm interested in double majoring--one of the majors would be either Cognitive Science, Psychology, or Neuroscience. The other could be something like International Relations (or another social science).

I come from a very small private school and am a bit unsure of how I'll adapt to a large school atmosphere. You might say, then, that UMich is out, but I don't see it that way. Also, I'd like to know how well known each school is, as prestige makes a bit of a difference to me.

I'm from New York, got no financial aid unfortunately, so don't factor cost into your discussion.

Last but not least, I want to go where I'll be happiest. Which of these schools fit me best? Which should I choose?

My daughter is a junior at Carleton, where it would probably be easiest for you if you are unsure of major. Majors are not declared until the end of the sophomore year, so you have plenty of time to decide what direction you want to take. The trimester system makes it possible to do two study abroad programs (daughter is an IR major - has studied Political Economy in Europe and will do Francophone Studies in Mali next year). One of the big selling points for my daughter was that Carleton students are, by and large, happy.

Good luck with your decision - you have great options!

I would take Michigan over Tufts. Then I would decide between what environment fits me best. The BIG 10 U or the LAC. Personally, I would take Michigan, but you can’t go wrong with Carleton it is a top flight LAC.

Just be your comment on school size, either Tufts or Carleton would be the sizes you are looking for. UMICH is very big, and you can can sort of feel like a number there. If it was Carleton or Tufts though, and I did not have my physical disability which makes it hard for me to leave the east coast because of the possibility of emergencies and needing family, I would choose Carleton in a second. The campus is supposed to be awesome, along with the people(faculty and students). The Minn. weather might be a turnoff though, but Michigan gets cold too! Good luck !
