Tufts vs. Haverford

My friend is currently having some trouble deciding between these two schools. He is pretty rich and has not received any scholarships or financial aid from either school. He plans on majoring in either economics or biology.

Any help and personal opinions would be appreciated.

bump !

Haverford is just too small.

^lol, from someone who is “objective.”

We’ll need some more information about this friend. I would agree that the size of the schools should be taken into consider (though even Tufts, a university, is known for a “LAC” feel).

He is pretty open-minded and thinks that both schools would fit him well. I am mainly posting this so I can try to get a general consensus; if you guys had to make the decision between these schools, where would you personally go and why?

bump, he really needs help deciding!

The Tufts alumni I know liked their college; the Haverford alumni loved it. No one can decide for your friend, however.

Without much to go on w/r/t your friend, Haverford is awesome. Haverford has an academic atmosphere that is as rigorous, serious, and stimulating as one will find anywhere. Also the College is all about undergraduates all the time. Also, Haverford has a unique and different Honor Code that creates this tight, connected, and distictive community. Finally, it also has a great social environment (fun/quirky), the students are very happy with a strong sense of community. Generally, students love the College and go on to amazing grad schools/careers.

Haverford, however, would NOT be the right choice for someone who is a “frat-boy”/ “sorority-girl” type, people who expect to be pampered, those who prefer cliques and social strata, those who don’t like to engage in ideas and discuss real issues, people who don’t want to be part of an intentional community, or students who aren’t interested in both working hard and engaging in the academics (for the sake of learning).
