Tufts vs. McGill?

I would like to study IR, and my list is down to these two schools to choose from.

Obviously, Tufts has a superior IR undergrad program. In fact, McGill offers IR only as a minor, and I would have to major in PoliSci, and concentrate in International Politics.

However, I'm a Canadian citizen, so going to McGill would be only 1/8 the price of going to Tufts. We're moderately well off, but it's not like we can dish out 50k without serious consideration.

Any opinions?

bump! 10char

Go to McGill, have your parents save the price difference, and then use that money they saved to get a master’s degree at Tufts/Fletcher or Georgetown. A master’s in IR is the preferred entry degree.

but i’m worried about the serious grade deflation in canada…how will that affect my chances of applying to grad. schools in the US?

McGill’s reputation is every bit the equal of Tufts’. Furthermore, Montreal, with its mix of cultures and language seems much more “international” than Boston. I would absolutely choose the wonderful and amazing McGill University for its own sake, not just the money.

“Grade deflation” is common at most of the better US universities too. It is a reaction to 80% of students graduating with a 3.8 or higher in the 1980’s. Grad schools know this and evaluate an applicant accordingly. Does the Tufts thread on CC talk about their grading curve?
