Tufts vs Reed?

I know, I know, like comparing apples to oranges, and yes I'll be visiting each campus, but PLEASE help me decide. Likely physics major; not sure if I'll go into engineering, need to be able to pursue studio art.

Hey! I know Reed is small, but isn't there SOMEONE out there who can help? Or maybe you guys don't know much about Tufts.

I can't speak about Tufts. I've visited there but not as a prospective student. But as an alum, I can speak about Reed. You may already know this, but Reed's physics department has been commended as one of the strongest undergrad programs in the country. Its other science departments -- chem and bio -- as well as math are also top notch.

In studio art, Reed has invested quite a lot in recent years adding new faculty and studio space, and compared to when I was there (when studio art was hardly given much thought, IMO), it's become an area that Reed takes pride in and will continue to develop.

Here's an interesting story of one Reedie with a math/art interest, and where it took her: http://web.reed.edu/reed_magazine/feb2002/features/quantum_mechanic/quantum_mechanic_index.html

Thanks! I'll check out that link. Reed's strength in physics is what originally attracted me. At this point I'm focussing on the atmosphere and quality of life. My only real concern is that Reed is a LITTLE small. I'm looking forward to visiting.

Tufts and Reed are two of my choices right now too...wish I could offer some advice! I've visited Reed but probably won't get the chance to do so at Tufts. Wish I could

Hey Lucy,
Tell me what you know about Reed, and I'll tell you my impression of Tufts after I visit on April 24th: What did you think of the size of the student body? What was your impression of the students? Do you feel you would fit in? Why or why not? What is your prospective major(s)?

Dude... Reed. Reed, dude... Reed.

(I see your name is Lucy. Scratch the Dude part).

go to reed because tufts doesn't have that great of an engineering program and physics there might not be soo great

I disagree with the assertion that our engineering program is weak - quite the contrary. Our engineering graduates are very well prepared and very strong. The same can also be said about Reed, though the name recognition for both schools is rather regional and limited.

Tufts isn't even in the top 50, but its still your choice.

I don't put much faith into the engineering rankings, as one only has to look at the quality of the students to realize the potential of what our graduates are capable of.
