Hi, I'm deciding between UNC and Tufts. I'm will have to pay full tuition for both schools. UNC is cheaper than tufts by around $17,000. I plan on majoring in international relations. I'm also interested in sociology and languages. I'm aware that Tufts IR is amazing, but is it worth $17,000 extra a year? I'm personally leaning toward Tufts, but the price difference after 4 years is huge. What kind of opportunities are unique to Tufts? In general, is the experience worth an extra $70,000? Thanks :)

THese two schools are so different in atmosphere.
You need to consider both finances and where you think you’d be happier.
If by some chance you find the latter to be a wash, then $70K is certainly a lot of money. I think you’d get a great education at both.
Good luck.

bump .

I would say that it is worth it but it all depends on what you want.

if you’re already paying full tuition on either school, and assuming it’s not TOO MUCH of a strain for you, i’d say definitely go all the way and come to tufts.
(as long as ur sure ur interested in IR)

OP (if you haven’t chosen already)–where would you get that $17k a year? If it’s going to be loans, then no, don’t go down that road. If you’re already taking out loans and you’d be looking at another $17k in loans per year, then you especially, especially don’t want to take on that debt.

If it’s a question of having your family pay more, and they can afford it, that’s a question that only you can answer. $70k can be a nice nest egg to use towards a graduate program, or supporting yourself while taking a no-pay but high-prestige internship, or even a downpayment on a first house.
