Tufts vs. University of Rochester?

<p>How does Tufts compare to the University of Rochester? In terms of academics, social life, etc.?

<p>I think Rochester is a great school, but:

  1. my kids have had lots of feedback from friends who go there suggesting that many find the social life lacking, and I know one kid who transferred out (to what most would consider to be a “lesser” university) for that reason;
  2. Tufts enjoys a much better location and “better” weather (which says more about Rochester than Tufts); and
  3. Good as Rochester is, I think Tufts is nationally regarded as being stronger academically.</p>

<p>So, except for one or two narrow fields of engineering, I would definitely recommend Tufts over Rochester, although Rochester is a fine school.</p>

<p>As a Tufts student, and someone who grew up near Rochester and has many friends who go there now: Tufts FTW. Under every relevant metric. I’ve visited my friends at Rochester and found the school boring, and they’ve visited me here and found their own school boring in comparison.</p>
