I have it narrowed down to these two and am having the hardest time deciding thus far. In general, does Tufts or Wesleyan have a better reputation?

I am looking to major in psychology with the hope of going into a PhD program in clinical psychology. Does anybody have any opinions on which is the better psychology department?

I have a friend who just got into a PHd program for clinical psych who is a senior here. I dont really know as far as the "rankings" go or whatever, but Tufts is probably better known for grad schools, has more research opportunities as a larger university, better internship opportunities in Boston. Not to mention Boston/Medford > Middletown.

Wesleyan's academic prestige is probably better, but Tufts isn't far behind. Like vaco said, Boston/Medford beats Middletown (I live near it...really boring) any day. As far as the psych departments go, I can't help you there.

I have a friend who loved the psych experience at Tufts - did very well there.

I don't know much about W except for the fact that it's very highly regarded (although I would not give it the edge over Tufts) and is very, very liberal and artsy. If that's your personality, great - go for W and don't look back. However, if you're not quite that type of person, you might fit better at Tufts - there's definitely a wide range of personalities (all of whom socialize and comingle) at Tufts.

hey! i also had a lot of trouble deciding between tufts and wesleyan. reputation-wise, tufts seemed to be ace. when i told people i had gotten into wesleyan, i got a lot of hesitant "oh... good for you"s and "isn't that an all-girl's school?" (confusing it with wellesley). when i told people i had gotten into tufts, i got a lot of "good job!"s.

I went through alternating periods of time where i earnestly was convinced I would attend Wesleyan then Tufts then Wesleyan and so on.

The choice was not easy. But for a few reasons, most of which were just personal taste, I decided that Wes was not the school for me.

Psych-wise, I would suggest going to the psych department's webpage for each school to see which school has research you find more interesting or has classes you find more interesting.
