Tufts vs Wesleyan

Tufts does not guarantee on-campus housing all four years?

Unfortunately not. They guarantee housing for two years. Many students enter the lottery for their 3rd year, but I think Tufts gives low priority for on-campus housing to juniors since so many of them do semester abroad programs. You don’t get your lottery result until January or so. By then, you’ve missed the first wave of looking for off-campus housing in October. My son and his friends used a realtor and found their apartment in February, but it does require you to pay the 1 month rent in realtor fees. There are so many colleges in Boston that the Somerville/Medford area has a very competitive rental market.

Interesting that mom from other post claimed to have just visited Wesleyan and old and rundown - compared to a motel 6. I had not thought that to be the case (although not the best IMO) but worth sharing.

It’s an interesting thread. Much to consider, including architectural history and evolving tastes. She later admitted that it wasn’t the entire campus she was criticizing, just the freshman dorms which were designed and built in the 1950s. I happen to like them and can’t think of too many people who don’t have fond memories of living in them.

It’s 16.9 miles in distance on 91 which is immediately accessible on both ends of the commute. Hard to say that 19 minutes is flatly wrong. You can do the math. You’re arguing at this point about how fast one drives.

Anecdotally, we’ve made it to Hartford from Middletown in less than 20 minutes many times. Traffic of course is the key variable.
