Tufts Waitlist 2020

Hey everyone,
I was waitlisted at Tufts and just accepted my spot on the waitlist. Figured i’d make this forum to discuss the possibilities of Tufts taking kids off the waitlist this year.

same here! hoping for something good. Were you waitlisted at any other schools?

I was waitlisted as well! Keeping my fingers crossed. Any news on the possibility of acceptance this year from the WL?

Has anyone heard back yet? When is the latest they’ll respond?

@JoJoFlo not sure if anyone has received a response, but the latest could be June/July. The vast majority of WL applicants are notified in May, but some end up being a part of the “summer melt” and have to wait until later in the summer.

I don’t mean to be annoying, but has anyone heard back yet? I’ve been looking at previous years’ threads, and have seen people find out both the first and second weeks of May. Has anyone’s regional rep confirmed that Tufts will be going to the waitlist?

Hey guys,
I’m a freshman at a Nescac school and I was waitlisted at Tufts last year. Last year I set my heart on getting off the waitlist and didn’t let myself even think about the school I deposited at. I did the same thing that you are all doing, looking at old threads and obsessing over the waitlist, and was incredibly disappointed (yup, I cried) when I didn’t get in. I’m writing this to tell you a few pieces of advice. First, realize that it is very unlikely that you will get off the waitlist. Apparently they didn’t take a single person off the waitlist last year, and that’s pretty standard for schools like Tufts. And if they do move on the waitlist, it’s only a handful of people that they take. Secondly, try your hardest to dive into the school you deposited at. Find ways to get excited about it and I guarantee that doing so will make you less anxious about the waitlist because you’ll be happier with where you’re going. That way, if you do get into Tufts, it’s a thrilling surprise, but if you don’t, you can still be ok with where you end up.

My last piece of advice is that if you are going to a school that you aren’t 100% thrilled about, go in with an open mind. I know it’s easier said than done, but you owe it to yourself, your parents, and the institution to give it your all. But if you realize that it isn’t the place for you, don’t be closed to the idea of transferring. It isn’t the end of the world. Maybe give Tufts another try, or aim for schools that you wouldn’t have been able to get into the first time around. I didn’t get into any of my top 5 last year, but I worked really hard this year and am now choosing between a bunch of Ivies to transfer to. I’m not saying this to brag, but to show that things happen for a reason, and that it’ll all work out.

Best of luck with the waitlist, freshman year, and everything that’s coming! Congrats on making it this far!

@grktwn28 thank you so much for your advice!!
@bretts916 nah just tufts. i committed to brandeis
I’ve been calling frequently and at the moment they don’t think they will be taking anyone. They told me to check back in towards the end of the month.

@readyforthenext4 did they mention when they would let us know, even if it is a rejection? About a week ago, my regional counselor mentioned that they’re still analyzing everything–I feel like they’d inform of us of a rejection already if they weren’t going to the WL.

My son is waitlisted at Tufts. I have read on College Confidential that Tufts has not gone to their waitlist in more than 5 years. Harvard took 40-50 off their waiting list and Stanford took more than that. I would think those students were holding acceptances at other colleges. I am hoping there will be some openings that trickle down to the other colleges. Maybe Tufts is waiting to see what happens as other schools move to their waiting lists. After Harvard and Stanford accepted those students off their waiting lists, they released a ton of people from their waiting lists as they know they won’t be using all the people they had waitlisted. Maybe Tufts will do that at the end of the month or even later. I can’t imagine it will be that many openings if there are any. We will see.

any update on the Tufts waitlist? will they be going to it? when (roughly) would they begin to let people know? will they get back to us regardless of yes/no?

Class of 2020 completely full, no waitlist this year. X_X

@nervous2020 , where did you get that info?

From Tufts, via email.

This is the email they sent:
Dear ,

Thank you for remaining on the Waiting List for admission to Tufts University. I appreciate your continuing interest in joining our freshman class as we negotiated the final weeks of our admissions process. Now that the Candidate’s Reply Date has passed, it is clear that next year’s freshman class is full. Accordingly, we are unable to extend additional offers of admission this year and our Waiting List is now closed.

I know this is not the news you had hoped to receive and I understand your disappointment. You offered a compelling application and were certainly someone who would have added much to our undergraduate community.

It has been our privilege to learn more about you and your interests during this record-setting admissions cycle. Best wishes for a memorable and successful undergraduate experience.

Sincerely,

Lee A. Coffin
Dean of Undergraduate Admissions

@nervous2020, UGH! Not much of a silver lining, but you can now commit fully to wherever you’ve sent that deposit. Good luck in the fall!!
