tuition bill questions

See I could never be a student ambassador. I would just end up getting confused and hang up. Seriously, you expect me to answer someone esle’s questions about fin. aid when the whole process for me was just a confusing blur LOL. I guess now it all makes sense. I wondered why I could never get a straight answer when I called.

Thank you so much, bonnie419. I will definitely send NYU an e-mail. Also, I’m pretty sure the minimum meal plan we can get is that 175 flex one, which is $1800. Correct me if I’m wrong. But if I’m right, how do I go about changing that?

[NYU > Department of Housing](<a href=“Housing and Dining”>Housing and Dining)

you have to wait till August 1st to change your meal plan. What type of housing are you because if you are doing apt. style you can go as low as 75 meals a semester for $952 like me :D

I’m traditional, so I get the $1800 one as my lowest. But hey, my meal plan is pretty much the only thing I can’t afford, so an $1800 loan is better than a $1925 loan, imo.

@RockingJuice

Sallie Mae just denied me for a private loan despite my 780 credit score (fyi, that’s astronomically good). When I asked why, they said, “Oh, because of the financial crisis, we have had to become stricter about who we lend out to.” Right, so they took bailout money from the government, money intended to keep it easy for students to get loans, and are now refusing to part with said money to give to someone with a stellar credit score, 10 years of credit history, a job, and five other private loans with the company, all being paid off on time. So, in short, and how I told them on the phone: Sallie Mae can kiss my f**ing a*.

Next time, the best way to bypass the work-study students (who all get training anyway) is to email the Financial Aid office directly. I have yet to get an email back from someone other than the full-time staff.

Seriously, I thought getting denied by Sallie Mae meant receiving denials from the other lendors. However, I was accepted into Discover…so I’m relieved I have my private loans processing.

Different lenders will have different standards, so I’m really glad you found one that approved your loan. Unfortunately for me, the law school only accepts certain lenders, and Discover is not one of them. Oh, well.

Does anyone know how I reduce my meal plan?

ikatfabric, to change your meal plan:

 • The page says “NYUHome.” Click on NYU Life, which is just under and to the left of the email link.
 • Down a little ways is Housing Forms. The second orange rectangle is Student Housing and Meal Plan Forms. Click on that.
 • You have to log in again to the Housing page. From there it should tell you how to change the meal plan.

You have until about mid-September to change your meal plan up or down. See how much you use the dining halls those first few weeks and just be sure to change by the deadline.

I tried to change my meal plan by logging into my housing forms but they are down for maintenance till the 5th so I guess we’ll have to wait.

It’s still giving me “estimated” housing charges, and it also won’t let me waive the plan because my ID isn’t in the system or something. Er, are they going to update the bill soon or what? :S

Did you log into Albert? If you referring to your tuition bill from Net Pay mine has not been updated since 7/12 lol. Log into albert and check “current activity” under the bursar section. They actually update your bill from Albert.

^ oh thanks. I was waiting to know this.

All right, so if I pay the bill and I plan to waive the insurance or whatever, will they repay me later?

no, waive the insurance and then pay. it takes them forever to take the insurance off. i told the bursar that “i waived it but they haven’t updated!” and they were like “oh okay” and took a check for the correct amount minus the insurance.

^ this is happening to me too and I didn’t know what to do!
thanks.
I am going to do this too. But I have a question, if you pay the amount except insurance and its still not waived, does that mean they don’t count your bill as paid?

And what happens if we pay the bill a day later than the 10th?

that’s what i did. i handed her a check for the remaining balance that was the amount on ALBERT without the insurance. she gave me a receipt and said i was cleared for the semester.

this is when i paid in person in the Bursar’s office.

^ what happens if you have to pay it not in person?

i’m not sure. :-/

call the bursar on monday and ask, to be sure. or maybe someone else on here could answer.

Well I actually called bursar last week and they said that I could fill in the amount I wanted with the e-check but I want to call on monday and double check with someone. Paying an extra 500 dollars would make my parents pretty angry.
