Tuition credit

So I get what course credit is, but what is tuition credit? Currently, I have 5’s on my AP BC Calc and AP Statistics. I will be taking AP Bio this year along with IB HL History, English, Bio, and Math. If I get tuition credit from those will the $30k tuition fee drop a bit my freshman year or something? Because don’t I still have to take 4 classes?

anyone have any idea? or could lead me to a link that explains this clearly?

bump

Tuition credit can only apply if you want to graduate a semester or a year early. AP credit will get out out of classes and may give you credit, but it doesn't count toward the 30 classes required to graduate. This has been posted on other threads, so search back for more info, or go here: http://www.brown.edu/Administration/Dean_of_the_College/resources/?id=55

I've read that information off the Brown website, but I don't quite understand the difference between tuition and course credit. Although you may graduate early, does tuition credit allow you to chop off some of the $30k tuition fee?

And I've gone through several other threads but haven't found a very good explanation (or at least one that makes sense to me). Hence, I asked again.

If you graduate early, then you can chop off a semester or a year's worth of tuition. However, you still have to take 30 classes to graduate, so even with AP credit, you would have to sometimes take more than 4 courses at a time, which can be pretty challenging.

Ahhhhh ok, that explains it. Thanks!

No....you can't get tuition credit from ap classes, only course credit. The only way I am familiar with to get tuition credit is by taking summer classes (i.e. if you take four summer classes then you can chop off one semester of tuition if you graduate one semester early.) I don't know how it works if you are a transfer student...

Let me just put it to you this way...you aren't going to graduate early, or it is uncommon/difficult at least.

GHBrown: Sorry, you're not right. The reverse is true. Here's my earlier post on the subject:

Brown has two systems, Tuition credits and Course credits. In order to graduate, you need to have completed 32 tuition credits (literally, pay for 8 semesters), and 30 course credits (take an dpass 30 courses).

AP credit gets you Tuition credit, but NOT course credit. It is possible to skip some time by taking 5 courses, but a year skipped would require 5 each semester for 3 years, which may be hard.

IB credit, on the other hand, is held in very high regard by Brown (I personally enjoy this, and I think it is something more schools should embrace, because the programs are very different). IB credit earns you both types of credit, tuition and course.

Whoops...

Guess I haven't paid enough attention because I only got one ap credit anyways, after taking probably 8 or so AP classes....brown doesn't accept very many of the ap tests. But, only 9 more courses till my ScB because of that unassigned bio credit...yay?

What the hell is an unassigned credit anyways?

Basically it just reduces the number of requirements for the major by 1.
