Certainly saw that in our Scholarships & Financial Aid (or lack thereof) Award Letter.

Has anyone seen the new COA for TAMU? The one posted is still for 2013/2104 not for Fall.

Financial Aid told me the 2014-15 COA will be released in the summer.

Here’s what was listed in the financial aid letter for my daughter, who is going animal science:
Costs in the 2014 - 2015 year
Cost of Attendance for full-time enrollment $23,218 /yr
Tuition and Fees $9,690
Housing and meals $9,522
Books and Supplies $1,300
Transportation $606
Other educational costs $2,100

The tuition was expected based on the 4 year guaranteed tuition decision from the Regents. Surprised to see the room and board increase as much as it did. The new residence hall rates for next year are up on the web, but not the meal plan costs.

Whoop86, Thank you! I wonder why when I called on Friday, they could not tell me this and they said the figures were coming out in the summer!

The article prior to the one above had a link to proposed tuition by year/major per semester. I’d imagine the costs quoted to Whoop86 plus this info. would get you pretty close

The increase in room & board is actually getting closer to what most people pay - the apartments/houses are primarily 12 month leases. I also find it interesting that the new law states the 20% of all student’s tuition must go towards funding needs based scholarships…so,do we get a write off for charitable donations?

Charging us more to pay for someone else’s tuition/fees. I’m with AGmomx2.

AGmomx2 - Curious which law this is mandating the percentage tuition towards need based aid - can you point us to a reference? I didn’t see anything about the 20% in House Bill 29 which was referenced, though I am not the best searcher…

Ah, found it - TX education code Sec. 56.011. I did not know this.

This is what I read:
“The fees, which are used for supplies, software and teaching assistants, will be replaced with designated tuition that will vary from college to college. Students will see up to a 2 percent increase in those charges. Provost Karan Watson previously said the changes will keep revenue streams for the colleges intact and that the slight raise to students is to offset a state law that requires 20 percent of designated tuition be set aside for financial aid for need-based students. Some of the students in attendance at the meeting critiqued the move as wealth redistribution.”
<a href=“Texas A&M University System Board of Regents approve tuition hike”>http://www.theeagle.com/news/local/article_4cf230a5-5abe-5db7-a4a8-c46216a56d31.html

I did assume this was a new law - but maybe not(?). It would result in higher tuition if they cut out fees since 100% of fees can go toward university expenses but only 80% of tuition. So $125 in tuition revenue = $100 in fee revenue.

2003 per this link <a href=“EDUCATION CODE CHAPTER 56. STUDENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE”>http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/ED/htm/ED.56.htm And its “only” 20% of every dollar above $46 per credit hour, but I see the point you make about reduce fees means they have to more than match it in tuition hike.

Anyone see their financial aid packet from Engineering yet?

I have not received any sort of financial aid at all yet. I am starting to guess I won’t get any then? It sounds like others have gotten theirs. They said they would post online by the end of March.

My son is in Engineering and he has not heard anything either.

Everyone gets a letter with or without aid granted.

Funny thing is that my son who will be in Engineering has gotten all his financial aid letters (Baylor, UT Austin & UT Dallas) except for TAMU which is the only school where he wants to go. We have been checking Howdy Financial Aid portal daily in anticipation of the awards. Thanks TexasAtHome and Undecided2014 - - makes me feel a little better knowing that we are not the only ones waiting. Good luck!

Thanks kknight911 for posting that too. Good luck to your son, also!

Just checked at midnight April 1st and everything is now posted. Not much, but they did award my S the Top 10% Scholarship. The rest is loan options.
