I’m trying to compare costs and am having a hard time determining how UNC derives their $8,374 annual estimate of tuition/fees. It looks to be based on 24 credit hours (http://www.unc.edu/finance/fd/c/sa/docs/14_15_tuitionfees.pdf), but what if a kid takes 15 hours/semester, or 12 + 12 + 6 in the summer? Is there a “per hour” rate available anywhere?
I’ve looked over UNC’s “Cost of Attendance” web info and cannot find that anywhere.
For a full time (anything 12 credits or over) students for 2014-2015:
Tuition: 3211.50
Fees: 956.46
Total: 4167.96 per semester
for two semesters: 4167.96X2= 8335.92
The difference is possibly the “Incoming Student Fee” that is charged the first semester on campus.
A student can take a maximum of 18 credits per semester. Anything above that needs Dean’s approval. I do not know if there is an additional charge for credits above 18.
There will be additional charges for summer. Can’t help you there.
Thanks, I’m confused because this implies taking 12 credit hours costs the same as taking 15 or 18 credit hours and that makes it difficult to compare the total cost (to graduate) of attending UNC vs another school that has an established ($/credit hour) rate. Interesting though, looks like a hard working kid (15 or 18 hours per semester) can graduate for a lot less than a kid that takes only 12 hours/semester.
