Tuition hike by fall?

It is likely that the state will cut funding to UVa by another 15% (funding by the state is now 6.9% of the total budget). I guess that would amount to the state now funding 5.9% of the overall budget -- presuming no reduction in overall spending. This is a state school?

Am I reading today's email from President Casteen correctly -- that another tuition hike will come very soon -- as soon as the amount of the state cut is known?

If it’s only cut by one percent I will seriously be surprised. Public Schools here in Virginia have been cut by much more. I doubt they would cut primary education like they did and leave UVA funding like that.

I thought the tuition for this coming year was already finalized a few months ago?

Tuition was finalized months ago.

has anyone gotten the tuition bill for fall, new freshman and have not received anything yet.

I think bills are available online.

I haven’t gotten mine yet, I think student financial services has a site that posts when they come out.

PS, I think you meant to say 1st years ;)

Complete letter from Casteen
Tuition is never final. They could add a surcharge before classes start or next semester easily as they have before.

Would someone explain to me why UVa is a public school again?

The reasons are getting fewer but they did get a very nice deal with the state giving them near total freedom over how they use their money. Many state schools with similar declining state aid are still subject to micro-management by the state. Worst case scenario.
