Tuition/Housing Deposit help

Hey guys,
I'm pretty sure I'm committing to NYU, but I was waitlisted at several other schools (where, if I got into, I wouldn't even know what to do in comparing them to NYU) but since both the tuition and housing deposit are nonrefundable, do you think I should just send the tuition deposit, wait until waitlist results are out (mid-May...except for this one school which stops sending notification JUNE 30TH), and if I still decide to go into NYU, then send the housing deposit? Or is this a bad idea because I'll be stuck with horrible housing/no housing? How hard it is to get on-campus housing?

Thanks so much!

You didn’t say where you’re waitlisted, but wherever it is, you’re probably not going to be accepted there.

Do a little research, and you’ll see that historically, most schools accept between 2-3% to 10 or 11% of their waitlisted applicants. Some schools have had years where they accept no one. Which means, best case scenario, you have less than a 1 in 10 chance of getting lucky.

Therefore, the great likelihood is that you’ll be attending NYU. Ergo, bite the bullet and send in the $800. Be safe; lock things in for yourself.

And if you do catch a waitlist acceptance to a school you love, and you decide to go for it, you won’t mind that you’re out a few bucks for being smart. Better that than to play games over $300 and find out later you got the short end of the stick as a consequence.

Remember Confucius: “Only a moron leaves home for the day in a t-shirt knowing there’s a 90% likelihood of a snowstorm.”

thanks for your help!
