U Florida: +13.5% tuition/fees (+15% out-of-state); (1.8% R&B).</p>

BLACKSBURG, Va., April 21, 2011 – The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors Executive Committee today set tuition and fees for the 2011-12 academic year. </p>

<p>Tuition and mandatory fees for a Virginia undergraduate student will be $10,509, an increase of $920. Tuition and mandatory fees for a non-Virginia undergraduate student will be $24,480, an increase of $1,263.</p>

<p>Total average annual costs for a Virginia undergraduate student living on campus with a meal plan will increase from $15,879 to $17,365. Out of state undergraduate students will see this figure rise from $29,507 to $31,336.

<p>It’s about a 9.3% increase for in-state and a 6.2% increase for OOS (for total average annual costs).</p>

The Board of Trustees of Wake Forest University approved raising undergraduate tuition by 3.9 percent for the 2011-2012 fiscal year at their winter meeting on campus Feb. 4.</p>

<p>Undergraduate tuition will increase from the current $39,544 to $41,100 next year. The decision reflects a determined effort to keep tuition increases low. For the second year in a row, the university has kept the rate of cost increases below 4 percent.</p>

<p>“Wake Forest has always emphasized and guarded its tradition as a place of opportunity,” said President Nathan O. Hatch. “This tuition increase happens in the context of careful restraints on spending and a renewed effort to secure additional financial aid to offset the costs of maintaining our high standard of quality.”</p>

<p>Housing costs for all residence halls will rise by 5.6 percent.

<p>I find it amusing that the notion of keeping the tuition increase below 4% is being lauded as this huge accomplishment. What’s the rate of inflation now - 2%?</p>

<p>The OOS at Virginia tech seems like a great deal compared to 40-45 or more at a lot of State schools these days.</p>

<p>PRINCETON — The cost of attending Princeton University will inch up 1 percent this fall, the Ivy League school’s lowest tuition hike in 45 years, campus officials said today.</p>

<p>Undergraduates living on campus will pay a total of $49,069 next year under the increases approved Saturday by Princeton’s board of trustees. The total includes $37,000 for tuition, a 1 percent increase; $6,596 for a dormitory room, a 2 percent increase; and $5,473 for a meal plan, the same as last year.</p>

<p>The more the feds try to lower the cost, the worse the problem becomes.</p>

<p>Poor Sarah Lawrence. Well, maybe poor isn’t the right word.</p>

<p>In an entry just posted on the Inside Higher Ed Web page, the president of Sarah Lawrence College gamely addressed what has become this liberal arts school’s most notorious distinction: a price tag of $58,716 (including tuition, fees and room and board) for 2011-12, which makes it America’s most expensive college.</p>

<p>In her essay, president Karen Lawrence (no relation to Sarah) argues that the issue is not price but value. She acknowledges the premium that her school commands, but likens it to the price differential between something “hand-crafted” and something “produced on an assembly line.” And the sticker price is misleading, she says, because the school’s average financial-aid award to students is more than $34,000.</p>

<p>Her defense, of course, reflects the received wisdom of most university presidents. It’s also true that there are many other colleges right behind hers in the $50K-a-Year-Club: 100, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education.</p>

<p>To the howls of parents outraged by these prices, Washington responds by saying it will send more federal dollars–with no thought that easy government money might itself be part of the problem.</p>

<p>Right now the incentives for our colleges and universities are all wrong," says Ohio University economist Richard Vedder, who runs the Center for College Affordability and Productivity. “It’s wrong for colleges, who have no incentive to keep down costs. It’s wrong for students, whose needs are ill-served by loans and grants that go directly to the school. And it’s wrong for taxpayers, whose dollars are making education more expensive without expanding opportunity for those who most need it.”

<p>My kids don’t attend Pitt, but the paper today says - 8.9% tuition hike for in state students at the main campus, to $15,272. It doesn’t say what OOS students will pay, but it looks like a smaller increase for them.</p>

<p>My D at GW has a fixed tuition for up to 10 semesters.</p>

<p>It’s not just the tuition hike that concerns me. It’s all the other “add ons” Last years costs for in state commuter students at D state U were $7300 tuition $2900 fees and $240 parking. This years numbers arent out yet, but the parking was increased to $800…not a good sign of things to come.</p>

<p>SUNY is increasing by $150 per semester at all 64 branches. Tuition was $4,970 annually instate. From what I see, I am getting a bargain for my D, especially since she has a $1k?year merit scholarship and was awarded another $3,100 in departmental monies this year.</p>

<p>I’m starting to look for rising senior son who has no clue what or where, but I took California out of the mix - too volatile financially.</p>

Sorry to break the news but the NYTimes tells us it will be 20%:

Tuition is expected to rise roughly 20 percent next year, just the latest in series of steep increases. Yearly in-state tuition at California State University will average about $5,500, while at the University of California, it is expected to be $13,200 if the increases are approved this month.

<p>5th year of paying college tuition and 5 more to go. This year seems to be the biggest % increase in our household. It’s definitely an ouch. On average 3% a year, this year 9% I’m really hoping that the % increases taper down the next 5 years.</p>

<p>Our flagship school, the University of Washington is increasing by 20% this year. This is after hefty increases for the past two years.</p>
