A good friend's daughter has a chronic illness. She is going to Charleston this fall. My friend is looking for tuition insurance in case if the daughter should need to withdraw due to her illness. My friend has called a few, but they said they don't offer it at her school. He has also contacted the school, but received very little help. Anyone here with information? Thanks.

Take a look at A.W.G. Dewar Tuition Refund Plan.

I actually just received a letter from the health service department of my D’s school which also offer the health insurance. Is there such a department at that school.

At least as of last year, the Dewar Plan is only available at “participating” schools. We carried for three years for DS who has since graduated. However, senior year, his school no longer participated and we could not get it. The website should specify if it is available at Charleston.

Thank-you for the information.

Dewar may not work because Charleston is not a private college.

I used GradGuard for D1 but it’s no longer offered retail, but it may be offered at participating schools
<a href=“Tuition Insurance | GradGuard”>http://www.gradguard.com/tuition-refund-insurance. It was really hard to buy the last year. They only renewed me because I had a policy in force.

I use Dewar for D2’s participating school.

It looks like “College Parents of America” offers limited insurance (2500/semester, 5000/year) for joining. So far that is all I found. The Dewar and GradGuard web site should have a list of schools that participate.

I really wish all schools offer this. I don’t know why state schools feel that it is not necessary.

Is there any cost for a school to participate? I assume parents pay for the premium.

Both of my kids’ schools had this…but they were private universities. Parents do pay the premiums.

We never got it…but if our kid had needed to withdraw when she had her gall bladder removed, we would have been out $20,000 for the term.

Grateful for this thread because I am just starting to investigate tuition insurance for the same reasons. I’ll post any useful info I find.
