Previously on this board I remember seeing a parent say that they were going to use a credit card to pay for tuition and collect airline miles in the process. Looking on the BU web site, it states that credit card payment is only for Part-Time students. Can a credit card be used for payment with the Sallie Mae Tuition Payment Plan? If not, is there another technique to get the payment taken care of with a credit card to collect the airline miles?

Thanks!

I’m almost 100% sure you can’t pay by credit card. In any way. Hope other parents speak up, but from what I’ve read, you can’t charge anything to any kind of card (too bad!).

So you haven’t paid yet either? We’re going to fill out the Sallie Mae web form tomorrow or Monday at the latest. Hope it’s not too late, but the Sallie Mae folks said it will likely be fine in time to pay the bill.

Sadly, you’re correct. I just got off of the phone with Sallie Mae and BU does not accept credit cards for any tuition payment. That would have been a great way to help pay for the travel between Boston and home. Oh well.

So I am guessing you’re from San Fransisco or at least somewhere far. I heard other parents talking about getting Jet Blue points or miles and that they add up pretty quickly. Maybe search college confidential for that. I’m pretty sure it was BU-related people talking.

We just paid our bill via the Sallie Mae tuition plan via the website. Ouch…

I called on this as well, and was told you could play tuition by credit card only if you were part time. The justification was that the credit card cos make the university pay a portion of the cost as a fee, and they didn’t want to do that, preferring to spend their money on other university programs. We immediately switched to a JetBlue American Express card, and have been funneling everything including groceries through that card. There was a 20K bonus for sign up, and with that as well as some flights etc we have already paid for one ticket for parent’s weekend.

How long does it take for sallie mae to process the amount of money you want and give it to bu? Do they do it in a day, instantly?

edit: nvm. everything is in faq

Thatanos: it felt to me very much like paypal. The receipt in email after I enrolled said I paid that day, the “manage your account” page showed the first 3 months paid, but my checking account still shows the $ there.

I’d call to see when the latest you can do it, but i got the impression that as long as you are enrolled by the 5th you’re prob ok. Double check that to be sure though!

That’s exactly how it shows for me too. Did the tuitionplan today. If it doesn’t get through to bu by tomorrow I’ll contact them. Don’t want to pay unnecessary late fees.

also, ouch indeed lol ,__,

So how does this work? I thought it was like if I have 10$ due, through tuitionpay I pay 1$ a month and I’ll be fine. I did it but I still have money due in my account inquiry (it is original - 3 months of payment). Is that normal?
