Is tuition $42,050 for all undergrads? Or is it per credit hour/ unit? Like if you take 4 classes versus say 6 classes? (I plan to take 4 freshman year, but I'm just curious about this for future use).

The former, though it does go down if you take a light load (fewer than 32 units).

Well that’s good. Thanks!

Also, taking under a full-time load (I believe that’s 36 units) is dangerous because it probably means you’ll be getting less financial aid (pretty sure most federal aid requires you to be a full-time student).

^And it may send your student loans into payback mode (since you’re not a full-time student).

Well I am definitely planning on being a full time student for the duration of my stay in Cambridge I was just wondering for later how tuition would look if I am taking more classes.

IssacM: I see that you will be a freshman at MIT. A word of advice, be carefull about overloading.

Classes at MIT are tough. You were the top of your high school classs and everything came easy. Well, it did for everyone of your new classmates at MIT and the classes are geared for that level of student. Chances are you will be average at MIT.

I’ve seen people overload and be successful but I’ve also seen some who get in too deep. They try to hang in there with all their classes but then have to drop several and wind up with less than a full classload. Result is the opposite of what you were setting out to do.

Rather than overload, enjoy all the other opportunities that MIT has to offer; varsity or intermural sports, music and other cultural events, clubs, opportunities for undergraduate research, etc. IMHO, it is those other opportunities that make MIT such a great place to go to school.

I am definitely not planning on overloading anytime soon I wholeheartedly agree that I will be average at MIT lol. I was just curious if say Junior year, if I take like 5 or 6 classes if that would cause an increase in tuition. I don’t have any plans yet as to what classes I would even be taking let alone how many. But I for sure plan on going through freshman year taking the normal 4 course courseload and seeing where I stand after that before I decide to take on any more than 4 classes in the future. Thanks for the concern though :)
