Tuition Rate Code

Tuition Rate Code - Current or Variable? Does anyone have any advice on this?

I just did a little research and found the following tuition amounts per year on the tuition estimator, based on either a locked in rate, or the variable rate:

For those that chose 12+ hours and locked in during the following school year:

2011-2012 $4657/sem
2012-2013 $4708/sem
2013-2014 $4760/sem
2014-2015 $4813/sem
2015-2016 $4941/sem
2016-2017 $5565/sem
Current Variable Rate: $5403/sem

Yikes. Huge difference between 2015/2016 and 2016/2017. And I guess we don’t know what the amount for 2017-2018 will be yet? I can’t find it anywhere.

Are you a transfer? if you are, do you believe you can finish in 2 years? if you think you can take the year period that makes you complete your bachelors in 4 years, counting your community college. If you think you might need some additional time perhaps the best rate is a rate that lock’s you in for 3 additional years. The variable only seems like the best option if you aren’t able to predict when you can finish you’re degree within a timely manner. The TLR_1516 stanands for 2015-2016 which means within 4 years or 8 semesters you will be able to finish your bachelors, Variable I find to only be useful in a case where you could potentially drop the next year, such cases like independent study, taking classes without a degree in mind. If you are a high school student and you have other responsibilities such as work/family or certain circumstances that do not allow you to plan for a 4 year degree.

He is a high school senior so we are hopefully only looking at 4 years.

Has anyone gotten any updated info on the fixed and variable rates for 2017-18? Some of the pages I’ve found through Howdy and SFAID offer confusing numbers. And some still just say 2016-17.

Question, is the tuition that is shown on our Financial Aid Award letter not the 2017-2018 tuition rate for us? Because mine was around 12k (which makes sense for engineering) but the website says the general is about 11k

I’m not sure about that, but I called this morning, and they said the new rates for 2017-18 should be out next week, so stay tuned!!
