Tulane 101

entitlement08- I assume you pledged a frat as you have attended many parties. Care to share which one you decided on?

Ballerina18- While Communications tends to be a slacker major at many schools, that doesn't mean you have to be a slacker. You will get only as much as you put into a major. Someone has to graduation #1 in their department; why not you?

Pokey is right Ballerina...but you should def interrogate everyone about communications once you arrive at Tulane, I don't really know anything about that here. If you're lucky you just may get a GWA(tour guide) who is studying comm...

Pokey, I can't say much about pledging during pledging (which begins with deciding on a frat & having them decide on you)...have you heard of hazing, haha...

Good plan, entitlement. Oh, and I know how pledging is. My brother is a Sigma Nu at UNC-Greensboro, and he couldn't discuss things at all.

Not to play the insaneness of the big parties down, but you should drop a digit for the cost of these parties. You couldn't spend 50 grand on a Tulane party if you tried.

Ok, so I've read the posts about frats, but I'm a chick, so how do things work out for me? I know they won't let you live off campus cuz of the prostitution rules, so am I right in thinking that it's mainly the frat's show?

I got accepted into Tulanes School of Tropical Medicine. Could you give a brief description. And, I'm probably not going to visit Tulne, don't have the time, so, how "good" is the substance free living hall and how easy is it to transfer from School of Tropical Medicine to the School of Medicine. (i.e. how long do I have to wait etc) And one last question, how is the diversity?

Thank you

Mgpak - read my thread on Engineering Scholar Day visit for answers to part of your question. Sorry I don't have the other info.

About the sororities, you actually can live off campus.... I've heard about the brothel rules... everything is kinda twisted in New Orleans though. Oh, and sororities have a big impact on EVERYTHING. They're just as influencing on social life as are the frats!

Ha ha entitlement that is a pretty good description of our little school, but you sure type like a chick. Dont go to Loyola and dont do that white powder and youll be fine.

BTW ATO and Zeta Psi suck.

Cheers!

Were you in any TIDES? if I am not really interested in most of the majors each one is associated with, which would you suggest is the best?

Swtgtc, my son did the engineering TIDES both semesters, but that replaced the engineering seminar class. If you think you would like to try engineering or business, those TIDES may be beneficial. Otherwise, you may want to try one that appeals to your interests.

Warning: Do take the TIDES classes seriously. I think several engineering students didn't take the first one seriously and the profs weren't happy with them. Even though it was pass/fail, I'm sure they weren't thinking about getting a "fail" when they blew off the classes and required monitoring of lectures in various disciplines. I think TIDES is what you make of it and you get what you give. My son attended classes and did the required lectures, and through the process got to know his future profs in a positive way.

Hey dude. I finally decided on Tulane with only two days left over USC. I am planing on partying a lot and drinking even more. The only problem is I'm entering the five year architecture program there and I wondering how much time I will have to party. Do you know any arch students? Do they have time as much free time as the others or are they working nonstop? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

enititle, i go to tulane as well. I'm in butler too. What's your name?

aesthetics:

lol, sorry, no. Tulane is great if you want a good school where you can drink and party, but architecture students are worked LIKE DOGS. The don't call it architorture for nothing.

Considering Engineering major. From what I hear, there will be significant more work and less time for play (compared to most other majors). Is that your experience with the engineering majors at Tulane?

"This is not a depiction of everyone at the school...especially in Butler, if you're still in the highschool "hey, i'm antiprep" stage, Tulane can get pretty prep"

Hahahaha, I'd say we'd have some interestingly different perspectives on this issue. I'd say it's more like, if you're still in that high school "abercrombie defines my life, please, please let me pay 50 dollars to look like everyone else, phase" this may be the right school for you. If you've actually grown beyond that crap, you'll be among the rest here who pretend collar popping frat boys don't exist. No offense.

i concur.

4 hours in the studios plus endless nights spend working on project. Architecture is hard work.

GoPackGo: BTW ATO and Zeta Psi suck.

Keep this trash off this message board. You don't even know me.

What does tulane have to offer that other schools may not?

What special student services are there (workout rooms, interships, etc)
